Just found this site and read some older posts from 2009, can not locate again. Were any of these precious women successful? I, too, want to open a shelter in a rural area of Alabama. Please advise….I am a 52 year old woman with BS and Master’s degrees, but have experienced homlessness due to Bipolar II and the loss of relationships with family members. I want to give hope to any woman who needs a bath, a meal and a safe place to sleep!!!!! This is urgent/thanks:)

Sounds like you do have a FABULOUS life already.I too have journals I kept of all ot my travels .They include my sketches of different places as well as recipes from local restaurants which I figures out on my own.

Good luck, there is a need in that area. Have you done any research yet? What other services are currently available? They would be a good place to start. Consider taking a grant writing workshop really talking to people in the community whose support you will need.
