I am glad i will be retiring within 7 years, i am beginning to feel that the paper industry will be lost into limboland. Anything can be read on line. I guess hygiene products will still be in existence. Toilet paper will not go out of style, tissues, etc. But newspapers, books and other reading materials will be gone in 10-15 years. As it is now, our kids go paperless most of the time. So, my career would be over within 10 years. What do u think?

What’s your career? I’m not sure when or how the world could go paperless. According to recent figures only about 20% of the US population own and use computers. What would the other 80% do?
i sell paper. Well, that’s the thing, the young people are already paperless, so as we grow old and die, then what? But it may be 20 or so more years.
No, not the books…never! I can’t imagine a world without the pleasure of reading words on paper, the weight of the book in my hands, the fragrance of the paper, and folding down the corner as a bookmark. Kindle be damned.
Be happy.
I heard yesterday that on the Amazon site kindle ‘books’ out sold the paper books for the first time! This is so very sad – it would be dreadful never to have a page to turn and wishing the last page wasn’t and the story would continue!
No, not completely. I’m trying to go paperless, I do use small pieces of paper for notes and love index cards. Its quicker for me to write a note than to type on a small keyboard. There is a place for Kindles but books are different. I have a kindle app on my ipod, a free download, but have yet to use it.
Paper Clothes?
Gosh I remember over 30 years ago working in an office and people talking about the paperless office. I’m not seeing it yet. A lot of things are on computer but am still amazed at how much paperwork there is. For example in the medical industry. Pages and pages and pages….
So true lovemylife,
I work in a hospital and lately the computer has been spiting out more paper then ever. Since it will not recognise what it does not need to print and often prints out extra worthless sheets of paper with non-essential information on it.
And look at all the magazines out there.
Paperless is still a ways away.
