Why do I have to be a Professional?

Why do I have to worry and fret about being a professional? Since I seem to be wide open to ideas and change and new paths, and since I’ve been plugging in on so many new things.

Why can’t I be a Cobbler? Like the article I just read in the Toronto Star about the young girl in Kensington Market who is a modern day cobbler? I love cobblers. I always get my bags shined and zippers fixed and boots heeled. I even get my winter boots cleaned and stored for next season. Why spend $500 on a pair of boots and not take care of them? Why spend all that money on designer bags and not take care of them ? Or in my case not designer bags but good leather bags and shoes and boots.

Why can’t I open a new business? I’ve been considering learning to hoola hoop like HoopGirl all over Facebook and the USA? And start an exercise based hoola hoop group for seniors? We have a girl here in Toronto who teaches it but she is mostly east end or west end. I keep asking her to do some classes that are easier for those of us who live in the north end to get to. So what’s wrong with being an exercise geru in hoola hooping and gearing it to seniors.

And I admire my sister who about a year ago, born of desperation posted an ad on craigslist and said basically:

Husband and Wife cleaning team and launched a business that she loves. And her schedule is packed solid. And she’s 10 years older than me! And he’s a handy man so they travel around to their list of clients on their new weekly schedule.

I love my volunteer work I do for the Healthy Home Exhibit. They even pay me an honorarium which is a pittance, but hey, when I got the first cheque I thought, this covers my high speed internet, my land line and my cell phone for a month. For one evening per week 6 – 9 PM doing something I love! Unfortunately the budget for the Healthy Home is cut back for the summer but will be back on full schedule in the fall.

I’m licenced and skilled in many areas. I’ve been considering doing the LEED certification program. It is a major certification and I’ve held back on it, but intend to do it and potentially open some new green career paths to walk.

I’ve also for the first time considering teaching the Real Estate courses including the broker’s programs. I was just looking into that the other day. The Ontario Colleges and Universities has just recently made the real estate courses university material. Why not? Except after 25 years in this industry maybe I’m just tired of it?

We had our annual RealtorQuest trade show last week. I finally got to meet the man who wrote the data base program I use. I’ve used several of them over the years but his simple little program does exactly what I need, without being a huge resource sucker and I don’t pay for modules I don’t use. I love his program. I met him at the tradeshow, and told him I would work for him any day. And he was shocked and so was I, as the words fell out of my mouth.

There’s also a new company called FrogBox that deliver green sustainable boxes for your move. If you need 100 boxes they deliver them. And when your finished your move, they pick them up. I love this new company and said the same thing to him. I’d work for them anyday. Especially the trade shows.
