What questions to ask lawyer when contemplating divorce at age 59

I have read the divorce laws for state of Florida, next step is to get a good attorney. Any ideas on how to get a good one, what questions should I ask in the first interview? Or over the phone before I even make an appointment? I want to be prepared with my list of questions so I need your help. Anyone out there have a recommendation for a good attorney in St. Lucie or Martin County?

I just turned 59 last week, I’m looking at divorce now too! Hope folks write inths post. I have never gotten a settlement that includes retirement benefits. The law went into effect 2 months after my divorce from my high school sweetheart and father of y children. He’s a millionaire and I’m facing another divorce, this man has no retirement…god heat a mess, can’t see myself through this yet, just been yesterday.

I recently divorced at 48. My best advise is to learn the law in your state and what you are entitled. I wasted lots of time and money on documents that were not needed.. Some states divide everything 50/50. You may be entitled to your spouses social security benefits. After explaining your financial situation to your lawyer ask exactly what the law entitles you too. Not what lawyer wants you to go after. Try to keep your emotions out of your conversations with lawyer. This is a business transaction for your lawyer and they love to keep conversations going, every minute you talk with them costs you money. You may also research online at family county court office. Best wishes & good luck!
