QUESTION;
Do you believe all psychiatrists are just looking for another disease to add to whatever it is they “think” you have in the first place?
Grandaughter has depression and is on meds, which are helping.
However, everytime we go to the Psychiatrist she insists in “looking” for yet another disease or whatever that she can “diagnose” her with!
I feel like I am walking into a restaurant, and she is holding a menu with all the possible diseases. and as she as us “misleading” questions she is “looking ” for yet another disease to check on her little list!
What the heck is it with that?
Most of the stuff my grandkid describes is teen stuff, and the other half are things we all struggle with!
example…
Do you always move your hands so much when you talk? Yeah, we are italian!
Do you always interrupt when others are talking?
Yeah, we are not robots, nor in boarding school!
Do you always get upset when things don’t go your way?
Yeah! Who doesn’t!
So… i guess I am all those things that this Psych dr wants to add to her little menu of diseases!
Are we all off or are the dr’s just looking for more stuff $$$ ??
What do you think?

find another doctor, one that will listen and be anle to help your grandaughter, there are a lot of good one. please keep her on the meds while looking for a different doctor. My neighbors son took his life about 2 months ago, we dont really talk so we wernt sure what happend, but I was out planting flowers when he came home carried on some small talk and asked if he didnt mind my asking what happend. he said he son was depressed and no one knew. I”m glad your grandaughter has family at this time to help her out. Yes I do think that in the world today it helps to be off somewhat. Keep us posted as to what you decide
How does your granddaughter feel about the psychiatrist? You may not like the questions they are asking but believe me there is a reason for every question or comment. And yes, all mental health professional aren’t really good at what they do. Sometimes it takes months to uncover all the emotional and behavioral symptoms to be able to make an accurate diagnosis. The reason so many of the questions are about what she does is because a young persons emotional state is presented in their behavior. Also, the psychiatrist probably isn’t talking directly to you about their sessions, that’d be a breach of confidentiality. So you are getting the information from your granddaughter, right? I usually tell the parents of a teen that I’m seeing “I won’t believe everything they say about you, if you don’t believe everything they say about me.” You want results I can understand that, just don’t be too hasty in throwing the psychiatrist out without substantial reason.
