Which do you believe to be the better way to shop for personal products in the recession? Paying less for products that work “okay”, or paying more for higher quality, conentrated formulas?

Have never, never, never bought the schmooze that expensive is better!! One example – when I asked an oil man which gasoline should I buy — ( many, many years ago) — he said — ‘all gasoline comes out of a main tank and each company fills up from that tank and may talk about additives and cleansing stuff – but they are all the same!!!
My approach to buying products for less is —- try it and if it works, buy it and save your money for something that really pleases you — for me — it’s a new golf club, or a trip or investing and savings orrrr — spending money on my kids and grandchilren. I am not cheap — as my sainted mother – Scots lady – used to say — ‘thrifty’ is the word.
Most of the time I am ok with the “ok” products….of course through trial and error, I have actually found some drug store brands of makeup to be actually better for my skin than say Mary Kay or department store brands, etc. I have found a fabulous cleansing cloth, $2.00 for 30 at Family Dollar, I have found nothing better to cleanse my sensitive skin….I love it….the only thing I spend more on rather than less is volumizer for my hair….I think there is a wide difference in what various companies consider to be a volume making formula, and some just turn out to be heavy….once I find something that works like that, I usually stick with it, even if it is a little more costly…..I think blush, lipstick, nail polish can all be purchased on the thrifty side…
After searching for years for the right products for my skin, etc. and finding some great ones, I came to the conclusion that most of them are pretty pricy. You know how you seem to run out of everything at the same time. It was a predicament for me as I am not working as much as I used to and I had to cut back. My sister suggested that I go on ebay to buy my products and so I did. It is the only way that I will buy them anymore. For example, my face cleaner which runs $36at my neighborhood hair salon, I picked up on ebay for $20 with free shipping to boot. Also, picked up my eye concealer ,normally $27 for $15. Always take advantage of the products that offer free shipping. I love it because I can still afford to buy the better products which I know work for me but at a fraction of the cost! To answer your basic question though, I don’t think it matters whether something is cheap or expensive. It matters what works for you. I swear by Vaseline for my lips and hands. Can’t get much cheaper than that!
