I have no children. After a year of looking for a job I finally got a job working at the deli at walmart. A 21 year old girl is now almost 2 months along and come into work and then gets sick because of the smells of the food cooking and whatever. Am I wrong in thinking that you want to have children this is your choice and to leave me or anyone else alone to do both my work and yours for three or four hours is wrong. Being pregnant is not like being sick, either come to work or stay home. Morning sickness is not an illiness. I am tired of doing both my work and yours. Mothers please tell me if I am wrong in thinking this way

Pregnancy isn’t an illness. It is however a medical condition. ANd assuming she has worked there for at least a year, her job is protected for intermittent leave by law due to the Family Medical Leave Act .
You feel how you feel. But the law disagrees and so you are going to have accept this situation. WalMart does–trust me on that. The penalties are servere for not abiding with FMLA.
She has worked for three weeks, and could transfer to any other department if she ask to.
If she has only been employed for three weeks then she DOES NOT fall under FMLA protection. There are strict guidelines that must be met.
Perhaps in the spirit of cooperation she could receive a temporary modified job into an area where she could be productive. Once she gets past this part of her pregnancy and she can return to full duty then she could return to department .
When your reveiw rolls around I would be sure to mention all the extra work and time you put in during your co-workers disability.

Having been in a position to write a letter of resignation on a job where i was moving up to management of a well known restaurant ,I had tried to get pregnant and when i didn’t, I gave up and went to “work” I became from food register to head cashier on to learning the management..but the smell of the food made me so sick …and yes it is a condition , that is as real as any other illness’…and everyone who suffer for a certain time has a hard time functioning, Your not experiencing it is easy to understand , how you feel, try to have a good attitude about the inconvenience of your temporary overload if you do it with a good heart you will receive what you have given, good luck and think of all the people who would love to have your job , this is the stuff life lessons are made of, and shows what you are made of ..
Look at it as an opportunity and not as an unfair position. Good Luck
I can see how this is really hard on you. You are both in unfortunate positions. Perhaps the young woman cannot stay home for financial reasons, and finding another job these days isn’t very easy. Morning sickness doesn’t (usually) last past the 4th month. Could you possibly approach the supervisor for a temporary increase in salary while the situation lasts? Or at least make him/her aware that you have been working overtime and are an invaluable employee.
I know the situation is upsetting you but being sick while pregnant is no fun, if she can’t do her job because the smell of the food upsets her stomach, the employer should provide modify duty to her and replace her with another employee temporarily, until she feels better. Still, we are not alone in this world and we should be happy to help those in need.
