Coconut oil – I can’t believe I ever lived without it

I started using virgin coconut oil (VCO) several years ago and now can’t believe I ever lived without it.

As a vegan I have replaced butter with VCO and use it for cooking because it can withstand high heat. I still use olive oil for salad dressing, dips and pesto.

I’m particular about the products I use which is why I refuse to buy commercial sunscreens or moisturizers as they’re full of toxic ingredients. Instead, during the day I use coconut oil on my face as a light moisturizer.

At night after my shower I apply it all over my body, and for my face and feet I use a mixture of equal parts VCO, castor oil and olive oil.

I’ve heard that coconut oil has a remarkable ability to heal the skin and shield it from the harmful effects of the sun’s UV rays. On those rare occasions I get a sunburn I apply coconut oil or calendula cream to the red spots.

By the way, I’ve been told many times I have great skin. I don’t know if it’s because of what I do or just luck.

I started using it with my husband as a lubricant and it works great! I haven’t even tried it for cooking yet, lol!

Amethyst, thank you so much for this post!  I have coconut oil but never would have thought of using it on my face and body.  I have been using a drug store sunscreen and do worry about the chemicals in it.  I’ll try this today!

Appreciate this information very much, and will stay tuned for other possible uses for coconut oil.

    Hi Nancy,

You’re very welcome. I hope the information helps.

I’m always coming across different uses for coconut oil, including as a hair conditioner, natural shave cream and after shave lotion, hairball remedy for cats and that’s just a few for starters.

    Take care!
