Now he thinks he gets to tell me what to do with my money

My husband who has never held a steady job in 23+ years thinks he can tell me what to do with my money.  Go figure.  He says is legally get 50%.  I would just as soon lose my job.  Who the hell does he think he is dealing with here?

I think marriage is a financially dangerous institution. Your spouse can run up bills without your consent and make you responsible for them. I had a friend who was divorced for several years. At the time of her divorce, the bills were divided up between them. She paid off her half. Well, her ex died and hadn’t yet paid off his share. The court made her pay what was left of his half. I really can’t see a positive side to the legalities of marriage, especially if there are no children. It’s easy for trust to disappear in a relationship, and then?????

Can I play the Devil’s advocate here and say that what I’m hearing is exactly what men say when they work and the woman wants half.  I understand that there is much more to it than that.  What circumstances are you involved in where he may think he’s entitled to half?  You can shoot me if you want to.

Legally he is entitled to half.  If you get a divorce and he has no income to live on his own, you will be required to pay alimony.  Hey we wanted equal rights and we got ‘em!  The best advice from other VNers is to seek legal advice and protect yourself from this scum bag.  Boy!!!  Sex must be great to hang on to him for 23 years.
