My Small Business

I am starting my own business.  After teaching for 34 years, I decided I wanted to branch out, share more and build a business that could take me forward to and through retirement.  I am just getting started and am using information and inspiration I find here, at VN and at www.leoniedawson.com and http://eliseblaha.typepad.com.  I am looking everywhere and anywhere!  I am talking to everyone I know getting advice on websites, web hosts, marketing and business development.

I am open to suggestons.  I am excited and scared at the same time but mostly excited and optimistic.  I know I have a lot to share and I realize that the Internet is the way to share with the most people.

Does anyone have experience getting started with their own small business?  What website host do you use?  Weebly, WordPress?   How did you learn how to create your site?

Thanks for the feedback!

HI Amy.  I just set up a website using GoDaddy.com as my host and WordPress for the site.   I had to get basic education on all this since I knew nothing, and I am VERY proud of myself for getting this much set up: thewayopens.com
BUT it is really hard.  If I didn’t have a friend who’s a geek to hep me troubleshoot and explain things I don’t know where I’d be.  It’s a foreign language to me — even reading tutorials can be confusing.  But if you have the time to learn (I’m unemployed and can’t find a job) it’s worth it.  WordPress has a lot of choices in themes (I finally settled on Weaver and it’s comparatively easy to use…) and is very flexible.
I am also very excited about staring my own business/practice.  Good luck to you.
