Hi – I lost my job in December and filed for unemployment. I had been collecting checks for about a month and now the employer wants to appeal. I suppose it is their right to do this. I got an attorney because I need this unemployment money. I have been out of work for 4 months! I know that is nothing compared to what some people are dealing with..but I am fighting for every cent I have coming to me.
It is almost 4 months later and I just want to put this behind me. I hated to get an attorney but I need to protect my interests. If I lost the case then I will have to pay back the state along with having no job!
I really want to move on..this is just getting old already!

You do what you have to, it’s your money!…TRACK
Why is your former employer fighting it ?? My husband layed off this guy to get his health straighten out and now he will not return any calls to return to work He received the unemployment in good faith that he would get it together.I thought was a very nice thing for my husband to do..The other workers said they have seen him and he said he is going to turn my husband in for all kinds of things (lies) if he refuses his unemployment.Don’t know if my husband wants to deal with it or just wait till he runs out and begs for a job.. I can bet my life that will never happen..
My employer is a jerk…to put is simply. My boss was 23 years old and have been off for maternity leave for several months…so I was in charge. When she came back she told me I had been used while she was gone. She will get hers in due time. She started writing me up for things I did not do…such as telling a 91 year old woman she must sign a do not resusitate order…that I did not follow policy…etc. I am not a nurse..never worked in social service..never received a policy book that I signed…a total f&&& up place! I took the job because I was desperate…found it through networking. Little did I know the place was under a major shakle up…the director in my dept was fired..the administrator was gone..a new one had just started.
The place was a revolving door..people coming and going..nurses, etc etc…The place had been sued by family members for wrongful death..I found out after the fact.
The moral of the story…don’t take a job because you are a desperate…you never know what can of worms you may be walking into…get all the facts..then make a decision of whether you want it or not!
Wow, why is it that the good always get the shaft..
Precisely my point….if I lose…I have to pay the state back…with no job in site..and a mortgage…my attorney feels I will win as I had been receiving checks..but these jerks want to try to stop it…with their lies and power plays…read between the lines..the 23 year old feels I was a threat…I hope she rots in hell!
I had a friend in the same situation. People kept telling her to let it go. She filed and won. Stand up for yourself, no one else will if you won’t.
Beach Angel – You sure have been through a lot, haven’t you!! I’m glad you got an attorney and are fighting this. Everyone I know who has fought unemployment disputes have won – I’m pulling for you to win too! Hang in there – it’s got to get better soon. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
I have had to fight for my unemployment twice and won both times. The first time without a lawyer and once with. So depending upon the situation you don’t always need a lawyer. I haven’t heard of an employer appealing after the fact before though. That’s weird. Good luck. I’ve been unemployed for 2 years and can’t seem to get a job. But I just went to the Womens Center in Ft Worth today to sign up for a “jobs now” program. They help you with the skills you need to find a job. It is a very intense 2 week program and they follow up with you for a year after that. And evidently they get some job leads every week before they are published to the public. It is through the county. I don’t know where you are but this program is supposed to be very successful so if you can find one it might help. I am also getting counseling through my local womens center for the depression that has resulted from my loss of employment. Take advantage of all of the programs you have been paying for with your tax dollars all of these years. During the last 2 1/2 years at various times I have gotten food stamps, help paying utilities from a local charity, some health care from the same charity, discount meds from the manufacturers, there is a lot out there for you. You just have to go after it if you need it. Getting your unemployment is only one of many avenues for assistance in your time of need. None of it is fun and you have to fight for it all but do it if you need it.
