I’m a widow nearing 70, a retired business woman with a fair middle-of-the-road viewpoint. I’ve been through several major economic cycles, mostly resulting from government changing the tax laws and and various incentives or deterants to business. A lot of friends my age lost 1/3 to 1/2 their assets over the last 18 months; and I am seeing layoffs and another round of home foreclosures. Some of my friends are assisting their educated adult children. My own utility bills have tripled in the last decade. I am truly interested in the big picture, but my question is directed more to those my age with what we thought was enough to enjoy independence and hopefully not be a burden on family or government programs. We retired rural almost 20 years ago, but kept a small apartment in the city which I enjoy. But I’ve begun to wonder if those funds are going to be needed to meet increasing costs of living. I wonder, do others my age feel it is time to pull in and regroup, or do you think this crisis, too, shall pass? Are you making any specific changes…or just watching and waiting?

i use a combo of shea butter and aloe vera moisturizer. Works great. I use shea butter on my lips, around my eyes and nose (dry areas), My father swears by vasoline.

Yes, Sassy, I am quite concerned, too. I have a friend that lost a lot. I have 2 young relatives in their 20′s and 30′s who can’t find a job anywhere. I believe we ought to be stocking up on needed items and I’m thinking about growing a garden. I’m not going to buy any foreign currency yet because I trust the work and ingenuity of the American people to overcome some of the government decisions of the past 20 years. I have bought a few gold coins for investment (they are from a foreign country) that can be sold at a profit if needed. I have definitely cut back in spending, though. Fix it and reuse it is getting to be a motto around here!! Also, do without it!
