If you think Single Supplements are unfair, you’re right.

1/3 of Vibrant Nation’s members are single, and many of them see “single supplements” as a way they are punished just for wanting to travel. A recent article by travel critic Chris Elliott explains how the travel industry abuses single supplements to make solo travelers actually pay more than their fair share.

Do you have single supplement stories? Do you have ideas how the travel industry could serve you better? Please share them with Vibrant Nation.

I totally agree. I’ve been single for most of my life, and bought a timeshare just so I wouldn’t be robbed and pillaged by every hotel across the country. I refuse to travel with a tour group because if I don’t bring a companion, they will “happily” match me with a roommate. Sorry, I won’t patronize you either. When my best friend and I travel together, we ask for separate rooms if we’re forced into a hotel at night – both of us are penalized just because we choose not to share a room. NOT RIGHT!

I am a travel agent and specialize in fellowship cruises. The cruise lines know how much they have to get for each cabin in order to make enough money to stay in business. If they don’t stay in business, I can’t cruise! Lord, I wouldn’t want that! I love cruising! I just came home Sunday from the Caribbean with 140 people!

My suggestion would be for cruising to find a themed cruise you would enjoy and ask if they have a roommate matching service. I provide this and it is just a fancy dormitory situation for a week. In the 8 years I have been doing this, only one guest was truly bonkers. Here is the screening question: “What medications do you take?”  Then consult someone with tha information!
