Good news for a change. I just got accepted to a certificate program for medical billing and coding. It’s at night so I’ll still be able to work until I can find something better. It’s not a degree program – but it’s a start and the program is FREE!!! to all low-income or unemployed persons. Unfortunately, the course was full for the fall season, but I’ve definitely got a seat for the winter season starting in December. The entrance exam was very hard and I was very pleasantly surprised to learn I passed (not be the skin of my teeth – but with FLYING COLORS)!!! Since both my Mom and my brother are both in the medical field, getting the terminology book required is something I don’t have to worry about. As a matter of fact, my Mom found the medical dictionary she used when she took the course and she’s looking for the workbooks she had and my brother has actually given me his medical terminology book to use as a study base. So all I have to worry about purchasing is the coding book and I can’t do that until the course starts in December. As I told a fellow VN – I need to change my life and this is better than sitting on my butt crying about my life. In five years I should be on my way – and if I didn’t take this course – what would I be doing in five years? I’d be 56 and still crying about not changing my life. Wish me luck VNs.

Congratulations!!! It is never too late to do anything! I am a freshman at age 63 and will start school again in a few days….biology….never had it……I must love a challenge…well, my whole life has been a challenge.
Yippeee, skippeee for you!! You go gurl!
Alicia: I’ll admit – I was scared at first, but when I mentioned my fears to the school administrator he told me not to be anxious. He said that last year he had an 82-year-old woman getting her GED and that if she could do it – I could do it. I’m really looking forward to this. Too bad I have to wait until December when classes start – but I’m ok. I’m so jazzed right now that tomorrow (when I get paid) I plan on stocking up on pens, pencils, notebooks, etc.
WONDERFUL!!! And I’m proud of you, way to go…TRACK…BIG HUG

Great news and a big congratulations! I was sure you were accepted though
Best wishes and luck. I am sure you will be the top student and even if stuck at the same drama ridden job, you have something to look forward to. You are probably on Cloud 9, huh?
Hey Jem: I sent you a private. This job sucks, but I need it at least until February 2011. Let’s hope I last that long. Thanks.
Persimian,
Big HIP! HIP! HOORA! For you!

Finally, a light at the end of the tunnel—-and it’s not a train!!!! Yay for you Pers….
Way Proud of my VN sister.
Congratulations! You’ll be amazed how much energy this new experience will give you.
Luck and Love!!!!! Way to go!!!
Congratulations!! I don’t know if it’s appropriate here or not, but I’d like to offer to help buy your coding book. I can’t imagine what my life would have been like if I hadn’t had a degree when I divorced; it certainly was rough enough financially WITH an education. So if I can help, and if you can allow me, it’d be great.
The best of luck to you persimian………sail on, silver girl!
GREAT NEWS!!!! The medical field is going to be the place to be since we baby boomers are aging (don’t tell anybody) and will need all the help we can get. Congratulations. You can study during the day since the front desk is kind of boring.
Great news Persi,..Don’t we like those flying colors..proud of you..and life does go on it is great you are preparing for your future ..continue to take care of yourself.
very well done getting in to that course – learning at our age is more fun, because we want to do it, not because we are forced. You sound pretty positive, and that I believe can only help in all kinds of situations.
Bravo you !! Yet another survivor taking as much control as possible under the circumstances and making lemonade. And, what about that wonderful Mom and Brother????? That’s the positive support that works!! Roll on!!!
Awesome & way to go out there & put yourself on the line! You might feel old, but banish the thought. When my brother graduated law school back in the 70′s there was a 56 year old woman who graduated too. It’s never too late!
Being in school at this mature age has a whole new perspective. You’re there because you want to be! Onward & upward!
Good for you, and thanks for being a good example to others by turning your fears into opportunities. Best Wishes.
