Holiday Commercials Hot Conversation

I’ve been seeing a lot of holiday commercials and have come to one conclusion…”Love and nostalgia sells a lot better than portraying someone (child, parent, grandparent) as a complete idiot!” Any thoughts from my VN Sisters?

I totally agree.  I especially hate the kind of commercials (and shows, for that matter) that make men out to be morons.  They are not stupid (well, there are a few…) and it appears that we woman feel that we have to be superior in order to feel equal.  All wrong in my men-loving book! ♥

That’s one of my pet peeves, too! It’s as bad as it used to be when they showed the “little woman” in an apron and totally sumissive. Neither provides good roll models for kids. Another issue with me is that the men in most commercials and TV shows are normal looking but the women almost always look like models. Why can’t we see a normal looking woman with a normal looking man???

I agree..I do not like any commercial (or TV sitcom) that portrays Fathers as idiots.Unfortunately, there are many out there!

One of my favorite holiday commercials is from Hallmark. Two little girls are looking at a Christmas storybook that their Grandma is reading them but it’s actually Grandma’s voice recorded in the book. I never get tired of that one!

I’m just tired of Christmas commercials, period.  I am always ready and like them in the beginning of the season but the beginning of the season is just too early now.  By now, I’m sick of them.

You are SO right about that! Remember in the good old days when the commercials and ads and store displays started after Thanksgiving not after Halloween?

some of the commericals here started before Halloween.  And was told that Mr and Mrs Claus appeared in the area Walmart before Halloween this year.

Advertising in general. I would really like to see real people models. Slimwear for example, is worn by young skinny women. I have seen one commerical for “Frebreeze” the women frebreezing was 50ish, nicely dressed etc, but she had a little stomach roll, and a little on the hips. The liked the commercial.

haha…Love that reply!…. Last night I was complaining about my weight and my husband said, “Sweetie…It took me 34 years to get you just the way I like you!” (he appreciates voluptuous women) P.S. I’m keeping that man around another 34 years!!

how about the anti aging skin creams and cosmetics being advertised by a thirty something model? Would love to see someone in their 50s, 60s and 70s being the spokewomen for those commericals.

Even though it is a car commercial, I like the tag line,  The Season of Reason. Very appropriate.
