I turned 60 this past June. I want to go back and finish my AA degree. Then I want to go on & get a Bachelor degree in Alternative Medicine. My family is supportive but I am a little nervous about going. Things have changed a lot in 40 years. Has anyone else gone back for a degree?

You know i am interested in doing this also, I had only 4 0r so classes to go before my BS and then had my daughter…I think the credits are only good for 10 years and it has been longer than that…
When the University got my transcripts from my college they told me that only needed three more classes for my AA degree. Those classes were 40 years ago so maybe yours will still be good. Good Luck.
Peggy,
Go back and enjoy yourself. Then you’ll have a second career in time for retirement – hopefully an enjoyable one.
I can’t wait until I retire just to take classes for fun. My friend just started taking Chinese and loves it. She already speaks Russian and wanted to learn another difficult language. I want to take history, languages, photography, pottery, finger-painting ….
Don’t think about it so much – just dive in, the water’s fine!
OH, yes, GO FOR IT. I’m itching to start a uni degree, planning now for when I can! I want a Bachelor’s in Literature and Religious Studies … want to teach and counsel and write eventually! But … have to get my two teens into their tertiary education first so I’m thinking of doing one paper per semester for the next two years while still working, then trying to do second and third years as a full time student.
Yes, education has probably changed a lot in 40 years, but then …. so have you! Your life experience and maturity will stand you in very good stead.

Hi Peggy,
I’m planning the same thing in a year. That’s when my instate tuition kicks in. There is a great link to a conversation you should enjoy. Good luck to you gutsy woman!

I started school at age 61…why? Because I won a scholarship…..it wasn’t academic, it was because of what I wrote about my life….a women’s scholarship; I was 1 of 10 receipients out of 1,700 applicants in the US…I never cared about going to college…as a dancer, singer, writer, etc……and joined the army right out of high school (very poor). I got a 4.0 in my last class….sociology, but this Fall class biology……….never had it in my whole life……..I say age is irrelevant unless you are a tree or a cheese…..do it!
That’s inspiring Alicia. I have to wait because it’s 4x’s as much as instate. However, I want to finish my degree in Art. There is the greatest Art Museum here on the Island. I’m going to register and classes begin end of month. When I do start with the college next fall, I plan to apply for every grant and scholarship that even remotely comes my direction. It’s people like you who share your success stories that help move me forward. Thanks.
THANK YOU ALL for your kindness and support. You give me the inspiration to keep going for the Degree.
