Budgeting

I was searching the web for some ideas/worksheets/calendars, etc. (anything to help me with my budget planning better than I have been)…then I thought I would just ask the VN gals if they know of anything (free) that might work in that area…..or something that you are using already that might work for me also…..I don’t have much $$ to budget, but I’d like to feel I have better control than I do now….trying to start saving etc.  Thanks for any info….

I have a program called YNAB  which means You Need a Budget.   I think you can get a trial version to download.

Having said that I find it way too complicated for every day use.  I do however keep running tabs using that program so budget for my annual professional expenses I don’t have to gulp and find $2400 all at once.

But it is a good program.  If I wanted tos pend every day tracking every cent a spend and putting in the program:)

My husband and I went to Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University.  They have them all over the country, usually in churches even though it’s not a religious based program although he is Christian and he makes one very small reference to GOD at the end of his seminars.

Dave preaches the envelope method.  After you have set aside the money for your known monthly bills, put left over money into different envelopes and label them.  I can’t tell how often this method saves me money when I go into a grocery store.  I only buy what I need.  No more compulsive purchases.  No more credit cards.  We’ve cut ours up. It’s scary.  Looking back, I can’t think of one single thing I didn’t buy that I miss now.  That’s what using a credit card does.  It gives you the power for instant gratification.  Yeah, there have been times when we wish we had one for a mini emergency.  But somehow, we always found another way.  Necessity is the mother of invention.

FPU cost us about $100 (for the two of us).  It has saved our live.  Sometimes he gives it away to people who call in to talk to him on his radio show.  The course is 13 weeks, once a week.  So worth it!

Good luck!  Budgeting is only hard when you aren’t used to it.
