Losing your job feels like you’re moving into a riptide. Forces bigger than you take over and feel like they’re carrying you out to places you’re very afraid of.
- The first thing I think you need to do is to stop struggling against it And just be in it. Mourn, be afraid, and look at what you’re afraid of.
- The second piece of advice I would give everybody is to start moving, physically. That’s the most important thing I can say. When you move physically, whether you’re walking, playing the piano, gardening, whatever it is you’re doing, your mind starts to relax too, and you start to loosen up.

I agree, physical exertion is the best way to quiet the mind. i lost my job, thru no fault of mine, a little over a month ago. if I didn’t have my dogs to walk three to four times a day, I’d have holed up and drowned in my misery and feelings of injustice and worthlessness.
BTW, I have an interview coming up on Tuesday next, if you are in that mode, please offer up a prayer for my success in obtaining the job I very desperately need, it is not cheap to feed a great dane.
