My DH came home from work on Friday and told me that his Board had made the business decision to terminate his employment. He had been there 31 years, President for 18 of them. I was stunned. He had been working so hard to keep the company going through these very tough economic times. It just didn’t seem right. I know you go forward and we will. We will make necessary changes to our lifestyle and we will be fine. It is just the coldness of the decision. Even after a couple days to process this information…it still seems surreal. Somehow writing it down and saying it in type to someone has helped to make it feel a little better. VN ladies, thanks for being there.

Jula,
Things happen for a reason. I know that doesn’t mean anything to you right now. The feeling of betrayal is overwhelming. Your energy has been on the survival of this company and you have the right to feel betrayed. In the end, it’s the money. Living where you do could mean he was in the automotive industry? With 31 yrs in the company, he has a parachute?
My husband just found out the company he works for (french owned) is sending all the work to Mexico. It’s cheaper for them. Being French, there is no reason for them to be patriotic to America. The unions lose again. They sent my husband to Mexico three years ago when they wanted to move it then and he was able to delay it. Now, it’s in motion. He graduates this May with his MS in Environmental Management. He also has his CHMM (Certified Hazardous Material Manager). His work has paid for his advanced degree which is the only positive thing that they have done for him. He has been preparing for this since he started 5 yrs ago. But, we don’t know where it will lead us.
You’re not in this alone.
Is that a pic of your land? It’s absolutely beautiful.

Jula, what a shock that was! One thing I have learned is that when something bad happens, it redirects my life. In that way, it gives new energy to it. I won’t say I’m happy for all the pain, but I will say the fruits of the pain have often been delightful and life-giving.
I send my best wishes to you and your husband as the dust settles and the new form of your lives takes shape.
Thank you for your responses. A few days have passed and it seems a little better. Hopefully a few more days will improve things all the more. I totally agree….I believe this happened for a reason and am positive that it will be a good thing. I really appreciate your time and thoughts.
All the best to you!
Jula
