54 and finding a career ? Most Liked Hot Conversation

I am creative, sensitive and clever. I am OK with being an introvert now! I love to write and I paint some pretty good watercolors. I am a wife and mom. I am also afraid to go out and find a job. It has been over 20 years. I am a altruist but I now want to make some of my own money again. I have a BA in Religious Studies too… woo ho !! Insights on this subject are greatly appreciated.

I don’t get it …why would ANYONE tell you you don’t need romance, partner, making love, etc…That is bizarre.  Of course, they are the ones, that if they find themselves alone, would hate those ignorant remarks.  It isn’t good to be alone…We need to be careful who we share our thougnts with; many people are not safe people.

I am so relieved that you understand..I live in Colorado and it is very different here..the people are not that warm..and very self-centered..this is my experience..for the most part..they are all into loving themselves and it is exalted here..independence…loving one’s self..I don’t get it!! The very ones who tell me I don’t need someone..they always say tht I have to love myself first..what does that have to do with it? I do love myself! Most of these people telling me these things are hooked up!! They love bragging about their relationships on facebook..I finally got off of facebook..I got tired of all the narcissists!!!!

I appreciate your qualities of being artistic, sensitive, and clever. I appreciate more your being an introvert! Why? You could utilize that special quality to gain prominence in writing and in painting. However, if prominence also is not your cup of tea, then just go ahead and be self expressive in those areas you excel in because in that way, you are able to ventilate your inner self. That may either spell growth for you or not, based on your choices.

I too am an introvert but through my younger years, I have self-learned to deal with all sorts of sociables. I have even managed to maintain a Facebook account but I have chosen settings that would enable me to control ‘entry’—this means I activate it when I check the account of my grown-up sons then deactivate when I log off. My Facebook account stays there but only my sons have access to its contents. Furthermore, this type of setting affords me and my sons the security and safety we all need in this very complicated world of modern technology.

As for studying, go ahead! It’s for your self development.

As for another career, it’s your choice between entrepreneurship or regular employment. If you are good in navigation, try the BPO industry which has given me my 2nd career after opting for early retirement from my 1st career. There is no age limit to employment in this industry. Basic perks include scholarships;  rice, transportation, and meal allowances; and healthcare insurance. There are additional perks which may vary from employer to employer but for my current employer, we also get cash incentives for a minimum of $100.00 per employee referral; non-taxable bonuses for quality performance; medical, dental, and optical reimbursement for me and my dependents; seasonal vaccinations; and much more. With this type of employment, my retirement pay would be consumed starting yet on my 80th birthday celebration. (Well, frugality plays a big role too.)

There are so many options for us introverts. Let me know if I could be of further assistance in the future.

Business Process Outsourcing. The entry-level position is either that of a customer service specialist or that of a technical support specialist. Examples of customer services include processing reimbursement or collections, explaining (electric, telephone, or Verizon) bills, booking plane tickets or hotel room reservations, and much more. Technical support jobs may include but not limited to troubleshooting internet disconnection, remote control gadgets of tv sets, and much more. Let me know if you’re interested so I could refer you to my company. Likewise, I will share the employee referral of $100.000 I have mentioned in my initial exposition.

Just like you, I have been for more than half of my lifetime on this planet a fish out of water. Imagine staying in a career in which I was not very happy in terms of the benefits as well as of the social demands that drained too much of my time and my energy that could have been spent for my family. My nephews and nieces as well as my former academic trainees motivated me to join the BPO industry. Now, I am more comfortable looking forward to my 2nd retirement from regular employment.

Um, feel I must chime in here, because I notice this happening on other VibrantNation posts. This is not a comment or criticism regarding this particular post or any individuals here. It is a general observation.

I sometimes see, as I follow post threads here, posters who along with enjoying the VibrantNation community are looking for clients for their respective businesses. There is nothing wrong with this. They also often ask people to message them off board, which is understandable. Just be aware: You do not know who these people really are. VibrantNation doesn’t know either. So exercise appropriate caution before giving out any personal information, signing any contracts or sending any money.

Part of my job is to work with scam victims, and I see the variety of clever tactics they use to hook people. The case numbers have exploded as technology has become more sophisticated. Smart people fall for these ploys.

Again, not a judgment call on the conversation going on here.  Just use your common sense in these situations — not only here at VibrantNation but everywhere. Scammers can very convincingly masquerade as your bank, the IRS, a family member or friend, etc.

Next time, please make that clear in your post. The personal reason I joined this site is for the FASHION after 50.

Hudleyflipside, I think Moongirl007 meant the warning for me or OdengGold, I’m not quite sure. Please don’t stop asking for help because of one post. I think you got some good advice from ladies who’ve been there and done that.

I’ve tried in the past to get a BPO job at home. I am aware that there are websites which charge you and claim they will help you get a job. I avoid those. I wanted to email OdengGold to ask her advice. I didn’t want to put my email address on here so I emailed vibrant nation and asked them to help us connect. They never answered my email so I put my email address on here and hopefully OdengGold will still contact me despite Moongirl’s comment. I think Moongirl meant well but maybe should have thought twice before posting.

I did think twice — and thought it was important information that women as consumers could use. If you reread my post, you will see I very specifically said these comments were not directed at or critical of anyone here. It is a comment regarding a general trend in this and other online communities. Two people already hit the “like” button, so perhaps they found it helpful.

I apologize for any offense that was taken, but not the message itself. Moving on. Good luck to all.
