“Journaling is the butterfly net that catches the ideas and helps me bring them down to earth so I can look at them better.”
“It’s a way of spending quality time with myself. It’s a reminder of who I am and who I want to be.”
“On the page, I can view my life more objectively; on the page, it is something I can ponder but not dwell on. Somehow, it is once removed and lends me, however briefly, a certain objectivity.”
“I journal to practice gratitude. When I’m feeling down, I pick up my journal and start writing. It helps more than I can express to see the number of reasons I have to be grateful.”
“Journal writing clarifies what your deepest self knows but what your ego and conscious self doesn’t or won’t admit.”
“I keep a journal to be my best self: present, positive and powerful! It’s psychologically very comforting — like talking to another person — and sometimes I am amazed what comes out of it.”
“I have kept journals off and on my whole life. The best time was a 10-year period when my children were young. After they became adults, I copied the journal and gave each of them a copy. My oldest son told me I had ‘given him his childhood back.’”
“A journal is like a friend that I’m creating for myself. It’s the person I am when I’m most undefended and most honest that doesn’t speak to me unless I get quiet. I tend to think there’s that person inside each one of us who has things to say.”
“As a family genealogist, nothing could be more exciting than finding a journal written by one of my ancestors. It would open so many doors into the nitty-gritty details of their lives. Perhaps I will be the one to hand down my story to my descendants! I need to start right away.”

I have so many journeling books dating back to 1983. My family will find my fears, praises, feelings, hurts and hang ups in those books! I continue to journel because it helps me to see if I’m being “Just a senior citizen,” or if I have a real heart, life, mind, body, and goals. As long as I breath, I will write.
Blogging is a great from of journaling… one of the great things is that you are forced to look for insightful experiences and new adventures to write about. I learned all about it at the Virgin Bloggers Bootcamp given by http://www.soelsewhere.com... specially aimed at baby-boomers. Read about it on my blog at http://www.flashnomad.com
I am learning the value of journaling and it helps at times
Journaling helps me start my day on a positive “can-do” note vs. flailing about for the next first step….focus.
