1. On the Beach From Nancy Schimmel in Pivotal pics “On the Beach changed my life. It propelled me right into the peace movement (it’s about the world after a nuclear disaster), and I spent the next dozen years organizing peace marches with the American Friends Service Committee and Women for Peace.” |

2. The Shawshank Redemption From candylady in Pivotal pics “I was unhappy in my marriage and wanted out but was too afraid (or something) to do it. I was watching Shawshank Redemption and there is [this] line in that movie: ‘Get on with the business of living or get on with the business of dying.’ I decided to get on with the business of living and got a divorce.” | |

3. The Song of Bernadette From WriterEva in Pivotal pics “My boyfriend was watching Song of Bernadette with me and my parents. During the scene when she is saying goodbye to the boy she loves, I found myself crying. I glanced at my mother and then my father and saw they were crying, too. I thought my boyfriend would think we were all nuts. So I snuck a peek at him and saw that he was crying too! That’s when I realized I loved him. We’ve been married now for over 40 years.” |

4. Fiddler on the Roof From michelle523 in Pivotal pics “[I watched] Fiddler on the Roof when i was 14. I was so affected by the sense of tradition and how times do change….My secure world was challenged. It was frightening and thrilling.” |

5. The Big Chill From Grandma’s Briefs in Pivotal pics “I was recently married and scared and disillusioned about being a grown up. This film made it clear that everyone is scared and disillusioned about being a grown up…and that it all works out okay if you’ve got the right soundtrack.” |

6. An Unmarried Woman From vljansen in Pivotal pics “I credit watching this movie with surviving a divorce!” |

7. The Manchurian Candidate From Pam Massey in Pivotal pics “I love politics, and this was such a great picture for its time. It made a real statement about the mass hysteria going on in this country during the House of Un-American Activities hearings when McCarthyism ruled the day. Those were dark days in our country’s history; full of witch hunts and fanaticism. A lot of innocent people were persecuted and many promising careers destroyed. It made me extremely aware of how important it is to be vigilant against extremism in all its forms.” |

8. Harold and Maude From ColleenBX in Pivotal pics “I have watched it close to a hundred times. It is the ONLY movie that I can visualize every scene in it. Maude’s philosophy on life reaffirmed my ideas at an impressionable age, and when I watch it now I still agree with her — except maybe the stealing of the cars.” |

9. Boys Don’t Cry From Grandma’s Briefs in Pivotal pics “This absolutely broke my heart, so much so that I was impelled to make my girls watch it. They really probably weren’t old enough for its graphic violence and theme but I wanted them to see what sheer hate can do in hopes of warning them against ever associating with anyone carrying — and acting upon — such hate.” |
|
| 10. Amadeus From SassySenior in Pivotal pics “The movie isn’t all that great, but the idea that God gave genius to a few and the ability to recognize but not achieve same also to a few, is a powerful concept that profoundly changed how I see myself. Alas, I am one of those legions who are schooled in the arts and technically proficient, but am saddled with the absolute knowledge of the difference between proficiency and real creative talent. Falls under the ‘ignorance is bliss’ category, because before Amadeus, I thought I was creative.” |

11. What Dreams May Come From S&rah in Pivotal pics “The movie that is my favorite life changing film is What Dreams May Come. The visual beauty was expansive beyond normal imagination. I had been plagued with depression since childhood, but this movie convinced me that suicide was not a viable solution.” |

For some reason I love “A Walk on the Moon” I love the retro feel of the movie and it brings back so many memories of that time in my life……and love Liev Schreiber and Diane Lane together….and I guess Out of Africa just because of Robert Redford and the beautiful African setting….Bridges of Madison County for the love story.
Fried Green Tomatoes portrays the resilience of women and the bonds that unite them.

I love the move “Always” I think I have watched it about 50 times. About a man who dies and comes back only to teach his new rival of his old love how to live. Wonderful, makes me cry everytime I watch it
I thoroughly enoy My Life As A House — It always makes me feel deep appreciation for the ideal of living in the moment and helps me remember how lucky I am to have survived youth.
