Women 50+ Know: How to enjoy a relationship with God Hot Conversation

kajunlady From kjunlady in ISO a small prayer
“We have managed to move through the stupidity of mistakes to begin to look back and understand that God, who is much more forgiving than we seem to be, used those horrible, stupid mistakes to teach us some wonderful lessons that make me who I am today!”

Alma From Alma in I want to know God better
“As a black female and at the age of 59, I am sure you know God. Darling, I am 57, and believe me without God in my life I could not have made it this far and I am certain it has been that way with you. As an afro american we have to know God in order for him to enable us to deal with the oppositions we have in this life. To get closer to God is a determination that we all have. I wonder though with all the evil and suffering in this world, is there a God. I know there is.”

“I believe I have a personal relationship with God. I have faith and thank him for all the experiences in my life that have taught me love and tolerance and patience.”

J Anne From J Anne in Boomer women look to spirituality (not success) for peace
“I challenge you to an experiment. For one day, every time you think of God, replace it with Goddess; every time you pray to Him, instead pray to Her. Every time you speak of He, replace it with She, every time you read He, read She. Let me know how it goes! Does it make a difference?”

Lorri From Lorri in Boomer women look to spirituality (not success) for peace
“Just like my take on Jonathan Livingston Seagull, it’s not about perfection, but the striving toward it. And between you and me and the fencepost, inviting God and His Helpers in on the striving makes the journey a little less lonely, a little less difficult and a whole lot more productive in the end.”

Susan who From Susan who in Boomer women look to spirituality (not success) for peace
“If we could grasp the depth of God’s love we would all be profoundly changed.”

joycarl From joycarl in Boomer women look to spirituality (not success) for peace
“I have found that facing the truth of day-to-day living can be disappointing and even agonizing. With God we get to start anew tomorrow without the weight of regret, fearfulness, anger, worry, etc.”

Reen From Reen in Boomer women look to spirituality (not success) for peace
“I…subscribe to no organized religion but find my spiritual sustenance in great books and exchanging ideas with others. This has not weakened my relationship with God, but rather strengthened that one-to-one communion with the higher power. I find I do not need a middle man but now go right to the source!”

“When through the woods and forest glades I wander, and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountain grandeur, and hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze; Then sings my soul, my Saviour God to Thee, How great Thou art, How great Thou art!  Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee, How great Thou art, how great Thou art!”    This is my song of praise and thankfulness to my God…=]

I know for a fact…without my personal relationship with my Father in heaven-GOD, I would be in a psychiatric ward with all the tragedies I have faced in my life time.  The Christians in Biblical times went through worse times as did our brother Jesus.  We must remain strong and not compromise who we are in Christ.  God is awesome and will continue to take us through this life time.  I make it through each day be focusing on my ministry and not my problems.

Each time I ask for deeper connection with Spirit, I receive it. I’m really interested in developing a regular experience with the Silence. I pray daily but I cannot say that I experience the Silence daily. And, I’d like to do that.

    To J Anne,

I love your idea about changing the male pronoun he to she.  I pray to God as my Father and Mother not as a man.  God has far more attributes than just male.  It’s laughable and short-sighted really since God is God and is omnipresent, omnipotent, etc.

I recently turned 65 and I love it!  I’ve been retired for 3 years and have been paying my own health insurance and now I’m on medicare and it’s so much easier.  I just hope that health care reform doesn’t change things for me.  I believe that my faith and my personal relationship with God has helped me get through all the difficult times.  “If God takes you to it, He will take you through it.”

God is our heavenly Father. I think he might not take too kindly to being referred to as feminine.

Isn’t feminine equal to Father to use your words?  Did you mean being referred to as feminine is a put down?  I’d like to hear your opinion.

So many questions about God and who is his, his purpose…makes me wonder why no one is prompted to mention His Word, the Scriptures, known as the Bible…hasn’t made a difference in expanding that relationship so many are seeking?   I for one study His Word daily, weekly, and associate with those who also spend time doing the same.   I don’t say this to make anyone feel less in their belief, or that they are wrong in any manner.   While we are imperfect in our assessment, due to our sinful nature - God, Jehovah, has made available His Word for the reason that He wants us to know him.  In fact, it is mentioned many times through the Bible, that he desires for mankind to really know him….!   I can’t say that religious leaders have done a good job of making this happen for their parishioners – they fail because they themselves are not as close as they like people to believe.

As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, I have gotten to know him better than I could have ever realized, and if there was any faith that could offer a deep understanding of His word – this is the only one I know can offer it – for Free!

John 17:3 – This means everlasting life, their taking in KNOWLEDGE of you…etc.

Obviously some action is needed to learn about him…it’s not just base on idle faith.

Faith without works is dead (Romans) – so again, there is some action that is needed on the part of the believer.   And so it goes with anyone mentioned in the Bible – all the way from Able throught history onto God’s Son, Jesus.   No one was ever an idle believer, neither believe without a good understanding.   Many of Jesus’s followers proclaimed the good news of God’s Kingdom.  “Faith, without works is dead”.

So…while it is possible to believe without any action.  In order to strengthen any sort of relationship wish “anyone”….would you not think action is required.  Even a good friendship needs interaction and activity to make it grow.

I think of G-d often.  I had made peace with the G-d of my childhood.  However, today when I think of G-d, I only want him/her to give me strenght to be a better person than I am.

There is a God and he wakes you up every morning.  Look at the birds, smell the air, look at what he created and know that he is there.  I communicate with him everyday.  I also talk to the angels and they let you know that God is real, because he sends them to help us.  I pray for parking spaces and thank God, I pray to get dress, clean up,and each day I say,Something good is going to happen to me today”  You can talk to God anyway, about anything and anyone.  He hears and answers prayers.  Stay positive and have faith.
