Now and then we need a special day or night away with our significant other. Our lives get so busy, and we get caught up in everyday routines that occasionally we lose sight of the important things in life. Or we find ourselves in a rut doing the same dinner and a movie date night time after time.
If you are looking for a fun, unique, date night– or even a date day, we have some spectacular ideas for you. Ever heard the expression “work hard, play hard?" We should do this in our relationships too.
Rekindling the romance or just taking some time to reconnect can be exactly what you need after a stressful week of all work and no play.
Birds are beautiful creatures we can learn so much from. Grab some binoculars or even your camera and bird guide and take a stroll down your favorite nature trail or just hang out in your backyard. You’ll be amazed by the different species you will find. Birdwatching is a peaceful, stress-free way to spend your day and reconnect as a couple. You could even make a day out of this and bring a picnic and blanket along with you.
Thrift and Antique store hopping
Thrift stores, Antique stores, or even estate sales can be a fun way to spend your day. Talk about a nostalgic way to spend your day. I love just walking around, looking at all of the old stuff, some of it stuff I had as a kid. Or decorations we had in the house as a kid. It’s a great way to reminisce and the best part, if you're just window shopping, it’s free! Better yet, you could make a tradition of doing this. Each time, pick up a unique piece and add it to your collection and each piece will then have a little story behind it, your story.
You could even find a new hobby for the two of you while you are out. Find an old piece of furniture that you love, but needs a little TLC and break out the DIY skills and breathe some life back into it.
Old School Game Day
Old school game day can be an entertaining way to spend your day. Break out the cribbage board and the cards! Or chess and checkers, or backgammon, or scrabble. Or one of our all time favorites, Monopoly. Grab a bottle of wine and some snacks and you can hide away from the world with your love and spark some healthy competition.
Even some of the newer gaming systems have old school video games that can be a blast to play together.
The loser gets to help make dinner!
Find apps on your phone to name and find the constellations. Google Sky Map is a great App to try. You can lay under the stars in your own backyard or find a special place away from the city where the sky is clear. Bring along some dinner and a bottle of wine. Or better yet, bring your sleeping bags and spend the night under the marvelous sky.
Sometimes a date night doesn't even have to be planned. Sitting at home in your pajamas and finding yourself bored? We always seem to have our tech gadgets handy so take Google for a spin and search those Flashbacks to some of your favorite or funniest videos, show/ movie clips or songs. Hey, why not sing and dance along too. You will seriously feel like a kid again.
YES! Drive! Just hop in the car, fill up the gas tank and go for a drive in a direction you haven’t been and see what you discover. Or maybe it is a direction you have been a million times, but we always get in such a hurry that we miss so many fun things. As you're driving, take note of different places you have never noticed. Along the way, you can stop for lunch or dinner or maybe find some antique stores to browse. You never know what treasures you might find when you slow down long enough to look for them. You can always plan a road trip - but the spontaneous ones are the most fun.
Visit an Escape Room
Until recently, I had never even heard of an Escape Room. If you've never heard of these, you have to check it out. It is a great team building exercise and would make for an amazing single or group date outing with other couples. You are presented with a theme, and you have a certain amount of time to solve the puzzles and find your way out of the room. This is definitely what we will be doing on our next date night!
Take to the water
Try Canoeing, kayaking, sailing; you could even try Parasailing. There is just something about the water that I find so relaxing and invigorating. You can even just take a picnic to the beach and watch the sunset. If you're looking for a little more action, you can try the parasailing, kayaking or canoeing. And you know what they say about canoeing? If you can survive a trip down the river in the same canoe and not want to kill each other afterward, then you have a strong relationship.
This is another fun date night opportunity that can be had by just hanging out at home. But instead of watching tv or flipping through social media on your phone - spark some fun and healthy competition.

You can also find many trivia apps on your tech gadgets. The new Google Assistant actually has its own fun trivia - you just tell her "I'm feeling lucky," and the trivia begins!
Grabbing a movie and dinner is always great - but that gets so tiresome after a while. What are some of your unique and quirky date ideas you have discovered over the years?
