You know how you stroll through the farmer's market and it feels like you're actually a grown up? No? It's just me? Well, be that what it may, there is no denying how sophisticated it feels to walk through stalls of a farmer's market. You take in the artisanal, handmade soaps while inhaling the fragrant herbs from the organic farmer and salivating over the small batches of homemade crackers. That is why we are excited to offer this giveaway for 2 months worth of boxes from Roost Crate!
Roost Crate is basically a stroll through your local farmer's market, but without the stroll or the farmers. The market is boxed up and shipped right to your doorstep each month. Every month, there is a different theme, and the items included in your box will revolve around that specific theme. February's box is themed "You're the Bee's Knees!" and is based around ingredients including honey and beeswax. And March's Box is themed "Take Me Out to the Ball Game." It is loaded with ballpark-themed items to celebrate the start of spring training for baseball season.
We had the opportunity to interview Kelly Pugliano, founder of Roost Crate and EatPicks.com, to tell us a little bit more about this unique subscription service. Here is some of what she shared with us so we could, in turn, share it with our lovely Vibrant Nation readers. Here is what she said:
Where are you from, what is your background, etc..?
I am the cook, baker, photographer, and storyteller of the food site Eat Picks®. I am located in Upstate NY, perfectly placed between Albany, NY and Saratoga Springs. I am happily married to the man of my dreams, have two wonderful kids in college and have the empty nest in short sight!
I worked in the corporate insurance world, was an event planner for two association clients before deciding to write full-time on my blog. After a few years, I had big goals to start my own business, so I trademarked my site, made Eat Picks® into Eat Picks Media, LLC and got to work!
What do you do outside of Roost Crate?
I work part-time in a local boutique kitchenware store. I work retail hours, however, I'm also the cooking school coordinator. I work with area chefs & instructors to create class topics, menus, write our brochure, and facilitate classes.
The kitchen is my happy place. I love creating dishes and baked goods; scones being my passion item! When not developing recipes, you can find me outside! I love being outdoors and enjoy hiking and running half marathons.
What inspired you to create Roost Crate?
Last winter, I decided to branch out from strictly writing recipes. I started to envision my logo on the side of those small delivery vans. I could see it, but I didn't know what was inside. Then it came to me; I love going to the farmer's markets to gather ingredients for my recipes so why not find a way to share my favorite products and foods from local artisans with my audience? It seemed like the next logical step, and now my readers in California can have the same experience I do in New York if they are so inclined.
The unique items are carefully chosen to go along with each month's theme. They are chosen from local small shops and businesses in Upstate New York and New England. When you purchase a crate, you are helping to support small businesses while expanding your horizons at the same time. They also make a wonderfully unique gift for someone special.
