Quick, easy products that cover grey hair color

Going to the salon to cover up roots that might give your grey hair color away isn’t always an option. It’s expensive, and it’s not always convenient to drop everything and go sit in a chair for an hour and a half. There are several quick, easy products that cover grey hair color so you can hide your roots effectively in-between lengthier grey hair treatments.

How to get rid of grey hair roots

Your hair is almost always growing. It goes through regular rest cycles and growing cycles, and it may get just a tiny bit longer every single day. In just a few days or weeks, grey hair color can start showing around your roots after a dye treatment. You can re-dye your entire head to cover up those roots, but that’s an expensive and time-consuming process. There are several affordable products that make it easy to hide those grey roots effectively, so you can wait a little longer before dashing off to your colorist.

  • Touch-up pen. Touch-up pens, like the Oscar Blandi Pronto Colore Root Touch-Up stick, come in a variety of common color shades. You simply apply the pen right to grey roots, but you’ll have to do it daily. The touch-up color washes out after every shampoo.
  • Color marker. These aren’t like the markers the kids used to use to color all over the walls. Touch-up color markers, like the TouchBack Marker, actually contain temporary grey hair dye. The TouchBack is one of the only touch-up products that actually contains dye. The chemical formula has no peroxide or ammonia, but it does last for multiple shampoo treatments. Touch-up markers are easy to use, and they dry in less than a minute after you apply the color directly to your grey roots.
  • Wraps. One of the easiest ways to hide grey hair color around the roots is with accessories. No grey hair dye is needed for a wrap. Look for long scarves that you can wrap right around your hairline to hide grey roots. A Lush Knot Wrap, for example, costs around $6 and they’re available in a variety of colors.

Regular grey hair coloring is a time-consuming process, so any little shortcut can help. Grey roots are very noticeable, particularly if the rest of your hair is dyed or naturally colored in a dark hair color shade. Quick, easy touch-ups are a great way to hide roots and avoid getting more expensive, lengthier grey hair treatments.
