This is great! How did you get all these companies to send banners? Mama Mia!

The company benefits from the advertisments and the viewer, may or may not benefit from the banner. Its good for the viewer and the company in most cases. I do not encourage the eating of cookies, there is a limit, although I would have to admit, those cookies are Great! They really are yummy!

The one to stop junk mail for free doesn't work - the site charges $20 per year to stop junk mail - is there some kind of code to use for the "free - we'll even pay you $1" offer??

Bjjohnson13, I'm not aware of the ad you mentioned ever running on VibrantNation.com, but if you see it again please send us the link so we can take it down. Thank you!

I urge readers to check out these ads whenever possible and perhaps sign on for a few....mainly because, the more response the advertisers get from VN readers, the more they will support this wonderful publication with more ads.  And, if you find an offer, as below, we can let the editors know which are not above board.  It's too bad that we have to deal with advertising, but someone has to pay for all this great info that readers pour out to us.  Ciao, Ainslee Grace

Ainslee Grace--so well put!  I'm sure VN members are aware that there are huge shifts going on in the traditional media.  How is your local newspaper doing? Your favorite magazine?  Trade magazines?  Many are floundering.   At the same time, new media such as Vibrant Nation are lighting the way to continued high levels of communications.  At the exact time the traditional advertising model obviously has fizzled out for the kind of media outlets we grew up with, new media are searching for viable ways to "monetize", but again, I believe only the heart and mission-driven sites with high quality, regardless of how good the advertising model, will survive (at least sites that hope to appeal to savvy women like us!)  Anyway, these banner ad discounts are what I would call a win-win and a good start towards the birthing process of what and how to sustain new media in our new world!  But this is an industry in its infancy, and we're proud that the VN community get to be pioneers!

I'm sure that VN will survive and advance mainly because once you connect - you will definitely come back for more...I was addicted at once, and I am not a terribly techy person, but really needed this interesting and knowledgable input from women like myself who are sharing their experiences.

I live near Boston and it's oldest and beloved newspaper, The Boston Globe, is in danger of being shut down by it's new owner, The New York Times.  Although I enjoy poking around the internet for current events and headlines, I would really miss the real printed "paper" news daily.

The drawback of internet newspapers is that we only look at the few items in which we are most interested, often passing up searching further in other articles such as the one's I write for my local paper, "Neighbors," opinions, local news, reviews, and just plain gossip.

It's just one more way to dehumanize our lives and speed along barely touching the surface.

Vibrant Nation is a wonderful alternative to newspapers and online sites which makes it more important. By focusing on an intelligent, interesting, experienced and fun demographic, it will enrich our lives.

Ciao, Ainslee Grace

Hello Eldercareconcierge,

I have a physical challenge - drop foot (left). (I can't raise my big toe, wiggle my toes or flex/lift my foot very far.)

It resulted when I wasn't treated/diagnosed fast enough for a severe Sciatic pain episode. I've lived with this for a number of years now and my doctor is aware. Somedays I feel like it's getting worse because my forcing myself to walk without an assistive device is tiring resulting in foot and leg cramps at times. Some days I feel like my foot is getting better because, even though fleetingly painful, I feel sparks of nerve activity from the base of my big toe to below my toenail.

Have you ever heard of someone like me who can walk but can't walk at the same time? Any help/advice would be appreciated.

Thank you for reading my question!

Thank you for the personal email.  I am having trouble keeping up with all these social networks.  How can I have time for you and others is totally involved with messages.  Many are more advertising in nature.

First of all, no I don't know of anyone to compare with.  Oh my goodness.  What a trying time you must have with pain and limited mobility.  Trying to walk without assistance is nobal but there are times when life will become easier with it.

You are right to keep moving since it  keeps circulation which is vital to avoid sores and other disabling issues.  What do you take to reduce the pain since this must be a big hurtle.

Next, as an example to making your life easier, my girlfriend was just diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer with a 25% survival rate.  Wouldn't you know she was just divorced and must pay all her own bills.  To pay those bills she took in a roommate with his own problems.  Everything at one time.

As a friend and part of my business for others, I searched the Internet for information regarding nutritional support for cancer, a link to a website for the functional retarded so she can gain ideas and support to handle her roommate.  She had no idea is issues until he moved in (2 weeks before finding out about her cancer).

Next we went shopping for wigs and head coverings.  She will be losing hair from the Chemotherapy treatments.  I paid for 2 visits with a cleaning lady.  We set up a "to do" list of things needed to make life easier for her after treatments.  This means protein drinks should she lose her appetite and has no desire to cook.  Organizing her closets and house for ease of mobility.  These are just some examples.

For me, I am finally going to put my ego aside and get visual impairment training from the Commission for the Blind.  Still able to see seomething there may be a day when this is impossible.  Now is the time to learn how to cook, use a cane, eat at restaurants, write a check and more.  Reaching out for help is vital regardless of difficulties.

Many food stores will let you call in an order to be picked up.  They also have staff to walk about with you while shopping.  They can move the cart while you pick from the shelf.  With limited mobility, this gives you options.  I shop on the Internet for healthcare items that can help you along with a bicycle pedals used while sitting in a chair.  Great way to add circulation and muscle strength.  Just a thought!

I hope that I didn't talk too much.  If so, just tell me because I certainly will support you in any way possible, including just listening.  Where do you live?  I mean what state not to get personal.  I am in Michigan and hope to travel by train this year while I can still enjoy things.

Sorry but I am still new to this social network.  Below is my respons to your situation.  I was an HR administrative assistant for 5 years and another 12 years in a bank as a corporation admin. assistant.  Now that I have low vision, it became necessary to work from home.  This meant taking my organizing skills and educate myself on low vision and eldercare issues.  Each day is a new experience and having members like you is a blessing.

You might want to see a neurologist.  I have something similar which is CMT.  The neuro would be the one to know.

Hi avibrantrose,  your challenge sounds similar to mine.  I have foot drop, and was finally diagnosed by a couple of neurologists as having CMT.  There is also a condition called HSP, which is very similar.  Hope this might help.

It's not your foot, it's your spine. I had a lot of those symptoms plus several more from a compression fracture that went undiagnosed for way too long. The symptoms are usually the result of nerve impingement, the nerve in your back, your spinal cord, is being compressed, usually by a bone spur or as in my case, a fractured vertebrae. See a good neurologist and/or neurosurgeon. If surgery is recommended have it. This won't get better on its own and will get progressively worse until you literally can't walk at all. Before I had the surgery my future consisted of a wheel chair and a morphine pump. Now I'm walking and although I am on a maintenace doseage of pain meds, I have a normal life.

I would like to know more.  I have a physical challenge with lymphedema.  I am presentally using a variety of tools to help - lymphatic massage, flexitouch pump, juxtafit wraps and stockings, elevation of legs, etc.  Could use some other aids - for example, help to elevate legs without using a huge stack of couch cushions, etc.

I find myself not going to large events because of fear of not being able to get around.  The longer I stand on my legs, the larger the swell up.

If you have any assistance for lympedema patients, let me know.

BTW, mine was trauma induced from an auto accident in 2004.  There is no real relief in sight.  Any new hopes for relief will be greatly appreciated. :D

Thanks!

I retired at 50 and had a stoke at 51. I am better but cannot walk very far I use a cane and sometimes get swelling in mt feet. When I have to do alot of walking I use my wheelchair. Try getting a wheelchair and use it when needed. Most people are ashamed to be seen as handicapped I am not handicapped just disable.I have very limited left side use! I do my own shopping. cooking, cleaning and still go on dates! :) I travel by greyhound unassisted and live alone. I'm getting ready to move to live with a friend I've known since third grade. I am one of the most positive people you will meet. It just determination not to feel guilty about anything in my life. I have fun and live a simple life. Stay Strong and Be Encouraged !

I am new to VN.  I just read you msg.  How are you recovering? I had a stroke (TIA) in March 2006.  I was 64 and retired at that time.  Like you, I walked with a cane.  The left side of my body was affected.  My left leg felt like a ton.  I had to drag and shake it before I could walk. I could not use my left hand properly.  My balance was affected that everytime I got on my bed, I fell flat on my face.  However, in November 2006, I found this amazing philosophy which helped with my quick recovery.   I am now 99% recovered and am enjoying my life to the fullest.  I am very grateful that I did not say no to the technology.   If we do not have our health, what do we have!!  In 20 years our health system will not be enough to help us...  We need to look for alternative and non-invasive ways to stay healthy to live lonter.   We cannot put $$$ amount on our health and life.  If anyone is open to learning about this technology, I am here to help.  What's the point for having lots of mula, if we cannot enjoy it because we do not have the optimum health.  All my life I have been health conscious, but I still had a stroke.  My body was strong enough and I did not have the big one. I am from New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada.  Txs.
