I’ve lived in the Baltimore area since 1987. In twenty-three years, I’ve been trying to make it to the annual Philadelphia flower show. Hopefully, this is the weekend I finally attend.
I’m not far at all from Philly, less than two hours. It’s a pretty easy drive up I-95, even more enjoyable by train.
And yet, each and every year, despite my best efforts, I’ve yet to see one petal at what is hailed as perhaps one of the best floral extravaganzas in the United States.
Seriously…how hard is it really to plan a stupid day trip.
This weekend, my daughter heads to the beach with friends(a trip that took her all of ten minutes to plan, by the way)and the other adult unit in the household likes to be left to his own devices, so I really have no excuses.
This has been a truly brutal winter and a few hours lost in the bliss of flowers should provide me with some hope of the upcoming spring.
Wish me luck. Now all I have to do is decide whether to go by car or train.

And if you should miss, there’s MACYS, 34th Street Flower Show around Easter, just WONDERFUL! Hope you make one of them!
Bet that’s nice, too! I’m also hoping to make it to the D.C. Cherry Blossom festival that starts the end of the month!
ROFL. When we moved back to PA (central) in ’93, this was one of the events I was happy I could finally go to. Grew up near Philly and had never been because my interest in gardening didn’t happen until I moved away. I am 2 hours from Center City, my family lives there. Yet have I gotten there yet? Of course not. Now, I’m not working, nest is empty, hubby is away til next week, and the dog would love to stay at my daughter’s. It’s still going on tomorrow. Thanks for the nudge.
I actually did make it today! It was worth the drive, some incredible floral displays! However, very very crowded. We walked across the street to the Reading Market for lunch and it was wall to wall people!
Good for you! Now you know you can do it! One day at a time now what else is there on your ‘What I want to see or do next’ list.

Guess a lot of other folks were tired of winter, too. lol
Hi all! I love day trips! I quilt, so every 6 months or so my quilt group & I take off & go quilt shop hopping. We map out a route, maybe stay overnight somewhere & finish up the next day. We come away with great new ideas & new fabrics to start working on more quilts.
But it’s not just the day trip, it’s the friendship & great conversation bewtween friends, we talk about everything, very therapeutic! Girl friends are just wonderful, & so are day trips!
Glad you finally went to your event, that way you are now an accomplished Philly Flower Show attendee. Remember the song “i can see clearly now the rain is gone..i can see ll obstacles in my way”. That reminds me of a long road trip. We used to do those from CT to Disney/Orlando, every year or every two years. Then the kids grew up and we shortened them to Va Beach, then decided to do all the beaches on the east coast. But when i first got married we took a road trip to Florida doing stop offs at various attractions and had the best time. Although i remember the fun we had and envision the places we visited, i cannot remember where these places are so i cannot visit them again. Ahhh to be so young and free, no worries at all. So, if you are a drinker, come to FL, we will go to Key west and party. In Key West the only thing to do is drink, just like Cozumel. Or we can take a cruise. Being in Miami those things are easy to do. I am planning a June trip to Punta Cana. Before that i want to do a 3-4 day cruise. So many things i want to do for fun, but i am too busy at work. I am travelling alright but to the islands to work, not have fun. Bummer!
Yes….I’ve heard one’s options in Key West are pretty much limited to partying and drinking!
you have heard? For every drink you buy, they give you one free. Needless to say, you better get a hotel nearby.
