One song can spark a moment
One flower can wake a dream
One tree can start a forest
One bird can herald spring
One smile begins a friendship
One clasped hand lifts a soul
One star can guide a ship at sea
One word can frame the goal
One vote can change a nation
One sunbeam lights a room
One candle wipes out darkness
One laugh will conquer gloom
One step must start each journey
One word must start a prayer
One hope will raise our spirits
One touch can show you care
One voice can speak with wisdom
One heart can know what’s true
One life can make a difference
That difference starts with you.

Beautiful and so true. My personal mission statement is making a difference, one life, one action, one smile at a time.
Someone told me once “even your smile can be a blessing to someone else”. I have thought of that often—as I go through my day. Love your comments.
thanks…..
I most definitely believe in the power of one.
A few years back a friend of mine said to me that she had met someone who gave me credit for changing her life. Years before I had worked as a social worker in a psychiatric hospital. The person I had supposedly helped had changed her name, so I didn’t know who my friend was talking about. Apparently, I had said to to this person something along the line that she didn’t belong in a state hospital, that she had too much going for her. She took this to heart, went to school, and was now a social worker herself.
I didn’t share this to pat myself on the back, but to demonstrate that the littlest action by one person can make a big difference. Whenever I get to feeling all that meaning of life stuff, I think about the fact that, I made a difference in one person’s life………..and who knows how many other people she will touch through her work. The ripple effect…………
The ripple effect can give you chills—in just the right way. I think it’s called “atta girl” on a much deeper level. There is something about the deeper truths in life that make us catch our breath. Thanks so much for sharing your story.
Yes. I have always felt driven to make a difference. I survived a nightmare childhood and poverty, 36 years abusive “marriage” and a church who voted me out of membership, with my name up on a big screen (on my birthday Sept. 29th), which said, “Conduct Unbecoming a Child of God.”
I joined the army right ut of high school, from a little town in Maine to San Francisco, at the height of the Vietnam War, peace, hippies, etc…major culture shock.
I won a women’s scholarship because of what I wrote about my life and am in school at age 63! Written my memooir (Ghost Child to Triumph–from a child with no voice, to someone who speaks up against injustice), and my poetry book, Sanctuary of the Soul was endorsed (can’t believe it) by Elie Weisel, Wayne Dyer, Nikki Giovanni, Drs. Alice Miller, Larry Dossey, Ellen Langer, et al.
I will keep on….keepin’ on!
