Dry, oh my! Hot Conversation

The slurping sounds were my body, soaking one more round of lotion.  All of a sudden I seem to have just dried up. Let’s talk lotions, potions, and pick-me-ups.  I am clueless.

Aveeno (active naturals) daily moisturizing lotion is fantastic for all over. You will feel it helping immediately. Buy it at B.J.’s.

Curel makes a great body lotion especially for those in menopause. Also, I’ve tried the Murad line for my face…very soothing and made my skin look great, but pricey. It’s not something I can afford all the time, a special treat, but it does last a long time.

Virgin coconut oil is great. It’s absorbed quickly and truly heals your skin, and it can go everywhere. Only drawback is in the summer it liquiefies and splashes and spills.Aay.

I have diabetes and my skin zaps quicker than the Sahara. I have found Gold Bond Ultimate ( for all over) is the only lotion that makes my skin feel worth touching. Have to use Oil of Olay on my face.

I put in a second vote for Gold Bond Ultimate. It is a little thick to put on but the effect is worth it. I have tried Aveeno too but Gold Bond Ultimate really changes your skin dramatically. Between peri-menopaus and living in an arid climate you really need the help.

    Peggy, luuuuv your blog title!

Have you tried metabolic and digestive enzymes? The result I got this week startled me. Noticable change with my skin becoming much more soft and firm. My ruddy complexion is evening out, too. You know, I started these supplements for better energy and stamina, which is workin out nicely. But as it turns out, I love these side effects! LOL.

So far, it looks like Gold Bond Ultimate gets the most votes. It sounds like some kind of glue, doesn’t it? But if I could glue some of the sagging parts to some of the ones still in place—–what a great lift that would be! And, if it could make me look all “dewey” again….another bonus! Off to the pharmacy to find it!

I have eczema, so I’m always dry (and itchy!!). Oddly enough, I use a baby lotion made by babymoon botanicals (www.babymoonbotanicals.com) called Restorative Baby Cream. It has a pleasant fragrance that’s not “baby-ish” and it moisturizes very deeply. No parabens, etc.

For my face, I like Striking Restorative Moisture Creme. It’s a new line for women with menopausal skin. The moisturizer is wonderfully rich, and leaves you hydrated and dewy, but not greasy. http://www.strikingskincare.com

Arbonne has a body duo which has literally changed my life. There is a body serum that you follow with the body lotion. I had a lot of trouble with eczema and dry skin and these two products have helped me immensely.

Same here Vesta! Arbonne doesn’t use mineral oil or animal by products, only botanical oils that are delivered to the basel cell level of our skin, with a patent pending system. Our skin gets healthier from the inside out. I also recommend the shea butter hand care treament set. Your hands will love it!

I use and have been using Neutrogena Body Oil for years . Just apply it to damp skin after your shower. Dry skin runs in my family and it’s one of the best items I’ve ever found. I use the light sesame formula, but unscented is also available. It can be found at most drug stores, Ulta Cosmetics, and wharehouses like Costco or BJ’s which is where I like to purchase mine because it’s more economical. It costs between $9.00-$10.00 at drug & cosmetic stores. Hope this is helful to everyone

This year, I’m trying olive oil instead of a body lotion. We haven’t had many cold days yet where I live so it’s too early to tell if it will work when the air is very dry.

Olive oil works wonder for me. I put it on my body at night. Not just any kind of olive oil, but there is this greenish olive color one I buy at Sam’s club.

I use a triple threat – in the shower I use Softsoap ultra rich shea butter creame body wash, when I get out I use a light body oil, once I’m dry I use Jergens moisterizing lotion. Sounds like alot, but it works – I also brush my skin nightly to get rid of dry skin. Your skin will glow!

I have used Palmer’s brand cocoa butter for years now ever since my dermatologist recommended it as the best and most effective moisturizer. I use the cream in a jar for my face and the lotion for the rest of my body. It is faily inexpensive and it works the best for me! Haven’t found anything yet for the vaginal area that works. Suggestions on that one?

Many of the products mentioned test either their finished products or ingredients on animals, including cats and dogs. If anyone is interested, please visit http://www.navs.org and order their inexpensive book: “Personal Care For People Who Care”. The book is updated yearly, and also includes info on charities that DO or DO NOT fund animal research. Thank you for caring :)

Personally, I use ‘Lancome’ skin care products on my face as they have a nice range of moisturizers for various skin types. On my body, I use products from Bath & Body Works, as their items range from lighter lotions to creams to body butters, and they smell wonderful!

ROC; Aveeno; Olay; Melaleuca; Eucerin; Neutrogena & Softsoap ALL test their final products and ingredients on animals in laboratories. This testing can alternately be performed on tissue samples, and in fact most ingredeitns tested have already been tested for years and are unnecessary.

For Years my favorite, my husband and kids too, is my homemade lotion.
One bottle of baby lotion, one jar of Vitamin E creme, and a small jar of vasoline.
I pick up all these items at the dollar store.
I keep a tub of it in the shower and slather it on before getting out.

I also have made and used this homemade concoction. I love it. You can’t use too much or you’re “sticky.” The part I like about it especially is that your skin is soft and glowing…which I love. My sister told me this recipe she learned from some friends who made it from a recipe that was online.

I use a lotion from bath and body called Lay it on thick and love it! I have been using it now for about 3 years and won’t use anything else in the winter months. In the summer it is a bit too much for me, but in the winter I love it.

I love hand made bath and beauty products, my favorite facial cream is made by Lush and is called “Paradise regained” it’s spendy but I save a few bucks by ordering my Lush goodies from their UK website.. just be sure to break your prders up so they’s small enough to be sent via royal mail.

I also love etsy for hand made bath/body goodies

Lisa at Savor makes fabulous soaps with olive oil, cream frachie soaps, body crema’s and mists that are seriously wonderful.

Haunt and Grumpy Girl also on etsy have wonderful things, many of them vegan.

WOW! This is a virtual buffet of things to think about AND things to try. I am going to make a list of all these items, order them, and try each one. I am thinking of enlisting some friends to do our own “taste test”—–finding something that IS natural—so I know the perfumes and chemicals are not soaking in to the vast wasteland, called my skin—would be great. P.S. coconut oil is supposed to be great for the “inside job” that also needs attention. Dry oh My! there too.

100 percent coconut oil is a fabulous one-for-all product. HAIR: For lots of shine and hair strengthening, about once every couple of weeks I comb it through and leave it on for 1 hour to overnight, followed by my regular shampoo and conditioner. BODY: For all over body including my face, coconut oil is a luscious moisterizer. My husband and I even use it in the bedroom, for some erotic frolic and fun. It smells good yet has a light pleasing taste…smile, smile (that’s 2 smiles, one from each of us).

I’m allergic to many of the Avon skin care products – they make me itch, and a lot of them have overpowering chemical odors that trigger an allergic reaction (respiratory) for me. Including their Skin So Soft line. Many of their products have such strong fragrances that customers, including myself, have complained, and returned the products for refunds. Check their website & read the customer comments before purchasing anything.

I also use the Neutragena body oil – the unscented one – because it has no fragrance. It’s very light, and is a great massage oil as well as for everyday use. It won’t interfere with perfume or other fragrances.
