Things I Will Have When I am 64 Hot Conversation

My Accessories

Like Barbie, I come with certain accessories. These are the things that I have had since I was 16, and I am pretty sure I will still be able to reach for them when I am 64.

OVERALLS

Overalls. I have worn overalls since I was 16, and they are my “go-to” pants when I am thick or thin. I think I look fabulous in them- when I was 16 I wore a Marshall Tucker Band tube top under my overalls, now I wear a t-shirt. I need the arm coverage!

CONVERSE TENNIS SHOES

Converse shoes…high tops. I have to have a pair in my closet. I wore my black and white checked converse high tops through my 30’s, now I go for basic black., but I am feeling the pink and yellow colors these days. I grew to love the high-top during my high school years. I played basketball and the school issued converse high tops for games. When I got my converse game shoes, I felt important, athletic and a part of a team. I feel a bit of that every time I lace up now.

 COFFEE POT

I have had a cup of coffee every morning since the 80’s when my soldier husband was stationed in Germany. The Germans turned me on to how good coffee should smell. When I put some American can coffees up to my nose and inhale the aroma, I just cannot believe how awful it is. No wonder I didn’t develop the habit until I found the good stuff. I am a coffee snob- no coffee crystals for me! And Mrs. Olsen was German…she would never have pushed Folgers. It was all a lie, because the best part of waking up for me now is anything but Folgers in my cup. As for coffe teeth- I have a great dentist, he can be an accessory, too. I use his whitener- about 3 times a year- Thanks Dr. K!

BLOW DRYER

I received my first blow dryer from my mother at Christmas in 1974. It was a Super Max. It was gold and shiny and had attachments! My life and appearance changed forever. I was constantly late for the bus because my hairstyle had to be just right! I had wings and was one of the first girls in my school to have them. My sister, who also sported a tattoo and the braless look, was the hippest gal I knew. She took me to the best place in town where I received my wings. I still use a blow dryer, and have owned up to three dryers at once during my stint as mom of two teenage girls. I do not have wings now, but the styler of choice is the hand held dyer, and if in my 60’s I have less hair, so what, it will still be stylish and blown dry daily. I just don’t see a change.

RADIO/IPOD/MUSIC

Is it me or did all of the greatest tunes come out in the 60′s and early 70′s? I collected 45′s as child. My first record was from Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young- Love the One Your With. I then joined the music club and bought 8-tracks- then cassettes, now I have the CD’s and my daughter recently bought me an IPOD. My first turn table was made by Technics, and I remember the criteria I had for buying the turn table and receiver- the volume control had to swim across the face of the receiver. Spin and swim- it was beautiful, and sounded so good! I love the IPOD. I now buy the music that makes me happy, one record at a time.

Gym Membership

Since 1973 I have frequented a gym. Army brat that I am, I used the gyms when I was young to work out and play. Though I should be almost Madonna like, I am not, but I continue to make the gym a part of my life, be it a nagging one at times.

These are items that have stayed with me up to now and I do not see it changing. I am writing this while donning my newest set of overalls, black converse shoes and drinking a cup of coffee, feeling beautiful in my blow dried styled hair.

Barbie for real.

Overalls?  Not for me, i look like i am in a sack of potatoes.  Converse tennis shoes, not for me either.  I told this story before, while on a cruise a beautiful young girl was all dressed up with a black strapless dress, short and really cute.  When i looked at her feet she was wearing exactly that, converse shoes, hitops.  We were all shocked.  We figured she forgot her shoe bag somewhere in Miami or she wanted to make a definite impression which she did.

I cannot live w/o a blowdryer as i have curly hair and now i cannot live w/o keratine treatments and a hot flat iron.  The hair looks great and it lasts for 3-4 days once you make the initial time investment w/the above.  Coffee, i can do dunkin donuts anytime and that is because i am lazy w/anything having to do with a kitchen.  Gym, menopause made me do it.  I go, but not because i love it but because i have to.  At this age, if we do not move, we will rust.  Music i have always loved music and love, love, love to dance; but i cannot see myself with plugs in my ears 24/7.  I enjoy music on my car radio, even my family room stereo and in concerts and TV but not plugged to my ears, plus i am afraid i will probably be walking somewhere and miss a car coming my way and be killed.  I did use it to do spinning by myself.  Of course i lost the ipod during a business trip since i left it on the plane, so i am not buying a new one.  I bought it on ebay for $39.99 but still.  The cel smartphones now have MP3′s and i have asked my son to help me put music on it so i can do spinning again and he refuses.  !! ^^!!Y!Y!!.  I hate him!

Another fun post!  I used to wear overalls when I lived in the Mountains and was pregnant!  And I still look just as bad in them!  I bought some a few years a go in black and beige and wore them until my husband said ….STOP!  I look hideous in them, but think they look cute on the right figure.  Converse, I can not wear…not enough support for my flat feet!  They are also cute, though….Well, Coffee, I have actually stopped drinking it….much…maybe for breakfast or with a desert.  Since I style my hair with a blowdryer and a brush, I have to have one….Other wise my hair is just too flat….Music makes the world go round , in any form and by any way….=]  And, Lynnette is right about the gym….Menopause…. I don’t go because I love it…I go because it is necessary to keep my body from being stiff…. I know these are your needs at 64, I will have to start thinking about  mine….hhhmmmm…will get back to you…=]

I love this post too.   I got married at age 17.   Our grandma lived with us all of my life.  And she went into her back closet and brought out her old wooden ironing board and gave it to me as a wedding gift.  It still has the sticker on the underside of it.  Since she was born in 1886 it probably dates to 1900-1910.

I use it every day!  I changed husbands a couple of times, but not my ironing board.

I have a tiara!!! Oh wait, it actually belongs to my 6-lb dog. My (idiotic) sister bought it for her when we first got her from the rescue shelter at 8 weeks old.

Fun blog to read, Kim. No overalls or Converse tennies here….. I have no clue what I’ll be wearing at 64 or what I’ll have in my life OTHER THAN A CLEANING LADY, WHOOOOOOOOO-HOOOOOOOOOOO!!!  I finally convinced my husband we need to somehow squeeze that into our budget, because my chest wall muscles just can’t take it now that we have all hardwood flooring.

Found a lady who’s coming Friday to look things over and tell us what she thinks it’d cost. And then I’ll know if this will be happening or not. That was one of the main things I was dreaming about having when I turned 62 and started getting social security checks. I might be getting it 4 years early now, and I’m SO DAMN EXCITED!

P.S. So what kind of coffee do you use? You didn’t say, and it’s driving me nuts wondering.

I’ve got my fingers crossed for your cleaning lady, Duffy!  Then you can sit back with the tiara on and watch someone else clean your hardwood!

My constant from my youth, to now and into the future will be cool boots.  Mostly boots to wear with jeans.

My current and future constant must-have will be knitwear – specifically cashmere tops/sweaters – it’s become much more affordable and fashionable (not just twin sets anymore, but now comes in hoodies etc.).  Cashmere makes me feel great.  I’d rather have one nice cashmere top than 4-5 tops of any other kind.

I love cashmere too.  I does feel fabulous.  Although a year ago I bought a twin set sweater set in the vintage shop.  I wear it all the time.

pale pink.  which I discovered I look great in.  I had never really realized that before.

but at the vintage store I showed the set to my friend and she went ICK so I tried it myself.   can’t believe how much I wear it, either the under shell by itself or the cardigan by itself.

and she seriously regrets it. lol

Pink flatters skin tones beautifully, doesn’t it?  Shopping doesn’t get any better than that – a great deal that looks beautiful on you and feels great on your bod.

I have a tierra too.   One of my sisters made it for me as a joke about 15 years ago from gold sparkly buttons.   I treasure it.

And old time rock and roll music, and coca-cola.  Preferably in the bottle.

I never had any overalls but I live in jeans and T-shirt type tops. Oh, yes, I’ll be 64 next month. Let’s see what will I have in my ‘packet’. The Opal ring my mother gave me for my 60th b’day, my grandmother’s wedding ring and all my other jewelry. My green teas, comfortable shoes. I gave up heels years ago in favor of comfort! A four footed furry friend or two or three….A blow dryer, since I don’t get my hair permed anymore, music, books, my computer, a TV…..Hair color, as I will not grey gracefully…lol.  That’s a start, there’s probably more but my minds drawing a blank right now.

Overalls are not for me but jeans and tee that’s been around forever. I can’t live without my walking shoes, ipod and a book. Back when I ran I lived in converse but now its walking shoes.

I’ve used a blow dryer forever.

I also couldn’t be without my coffee bean grinder and I too can’t stand canned coffee it smells aweful.

I need my earrings and lipstick. I don’t care if I have any other jewelry but the earring have to be there. In my younger years I barely wore lipstick but I love it now.
