Oh for God’s sake, who in their right mind believed a word Michael Vick said on 60 Minutes last night? I didn’t believe him for 60 seconds. Are we really supposed to think he transformed from a dog killer to ASPCA spokesperson?
Now, I may have had a few glasses of a lovely Riesling, but he’s lying. He has image shapers, lawyers, public relations gurus… I didn’t see any dogs sitting at his side licking his hand. I still cringe visualizing the images of the starving/dying dogs he left behind when the mediocre quarterback from Virginia Tech/Atlanta Falcons went to prison. He might have been “rehabilitated,” but some of those dogs never will be. Sorry big guy, you are behind dogs on my priority list. Oh, you’ve found Jesus? Yea! Whoppee do! I HATE THAT. Bullshit religious hypocrisy and convenience. Let’s leave the Lord out of this Mr. Vick. After all who saved your helpless dogs?!
Obviously this pisses me off. He was temporarily re-instated to the NFL and the Eagles fans will probably embrace his sorry ass if they win games with him at the helm… How quickly fans forget when they get the big “win.” How we love our sports heroes regardless of their transgressions. Trust me there is no bigger sports freak than I am but this guy is a loser in my book. Let’s see how long he loves his furry friends… One game…two games..and entire season? Sorry ASPCA, next season you’ll need a new ambassador.
Should we let him off the hook? I say he should be allowed back in the work force… Bag boy, paper boy, Home Depot inventory boy… But the NFL? Forgive a spoiled brat athlete who kills dogs for “sport.” Wow, it sure is fun to watch dogs die! Personally this breaks my heart. My heart does not break or bleed for Michael Vick.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself!! He’s not off the hook in my book – there is no excuse for what he did – it was mean and cruel….if that is how he treats ‘man’s best friend’, then how does he treat his human friends???
Michael – you made a big mistake and will have to answer for it the rest of your life!!
If he is as sorry as he says he is, why doesn’t he prove it by donating his 7 million dollar salary to the Humane Society? And shame on the NFL for allowing this person without values or morales to become a “hero”.
Shame on the NFL for sanctioning his return I couldn’t agree more. All we can do is turn the channel when his team is playing. Let’s do it.
Yes, a nice, fat donation would be some ‘proof’, and though I still wouldn’t believe his sincerity, the Society would definately benefit from the money far more than he would.
I haven’t seen the 60 Minutes clip, but I saw him at some news conference, and all I could think was ‘Nice read, idiot’.
If I’m not mistaken much of his money went to providing for the remaining dogs for the rest of their lives. They are in a special shelter to be re-habed….some can find homes and others are beyond repair. His money sponsors those dogs for life I believe…this was forced upon him as part of his punishment by the court I think, not his idea as a way to make amends. He should alsobe forced to clean the cages!
Men obviously take this issue differently – they believe that he served his time and “paid his debt to society” so he should not be punished anymore by the NFL & his fans …pleeeaaassee!!!!!
Amen!
I cann’t believe NFL and ASPCA took him in.
NFL, it’s like they’re condoning his actions. Aren’t super star athlete’s supposed to be role models for our youngsters? Nice message you’re sending NFL.
As for ASPCA they’ve seen the last dime from me. They welcomed him after their spokesperson said they wouldn’t. What a reliable spokseperson, Mick Vick.
Found God? That’s probably impossible as I doubt a convicted dog killer could find his ass with a search warrant.
These people make my stomach turn! The people this country reveres is very scary! He may not get back into the same business again BUT he will find something else which is just as self serving as long as he makes money. After all he has lawyers to pay etc.
Listen up girls; Andy Reid the coach of the Phil Eagles is either starting Vick or putting him in the next game! I SAY BOYCOTT . And if your hubbies are watching storm the clicker and turn the channel!
I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, yeah, I believe that he was coached. They would tell him to say I frequently to show that he took responsibility for what he had done but, as they say, the words didn’t match the music. I knew it was wrong because I was in prison. I cried because I was in prison. I let things happen when I could have stopped them. My favorite was, I learned dog fighting was okay when I was 8 years old and I saw it go on since then. Yeah, when I was eight I saw people pick their noses and I still see it but that doesn’t make it socially acceptable for me to do it in public. He left a space between the I’s and the facts of what he did. I don’t believe he, even now, realizes that he was wrong much less the level of wrong that he achieved. He’s sorry but only that he got punished.
This might be a good case study for recidivism. He has a large number of inluential people ready to support him. He has all the money in the world. How long will he continue to actively support the Humane Society? How long will his mentor be able to look him in the eye; or get him on the phone? How long until he’s back to being the last one in the building and the first one out? If he, with all of his advantages, can’t turn his life around, how can we expect anyone to?
I totally agree with you. The sad part is that the Phil. Eagle fans are already embracing him….all seems to be forgotten and forgiven. He is back. That’s the end of the subject and story. Very disheartening to a dog lover like myself, who also btw watches football.
yes try and forgive him as he satisifed his jail sentence. He was PUNISHED.
He lost status, income, possessions.
I also disagree that he should be reduced to “boy” status as many in our society once were wholesale and thus viewed as only deserving of “boy” type occupations.
as a MAN he took his punishment.
Don’t we in the US not ask folks to be punished for their crimes in order to teach or correct inappropriate behavior?
Once one “falls” and acts outside the modicum of
normalcy, if we have set up a punishment…and once that is satisfied…where is the grace (so heavily touted in most religions) in forever more reminded one of their lapse in judgment?
If we wish to be forgiven for our own bad acts why do we in the US seem to delight in reminding others of theirs (especially those that are different than our own?)
Where is the grace in forever throwing up in others face, their failures?
Once one has satisfied their punishment, or asked for forgiveness we give tepid watch to their words, but careful watch to their actions allowing them to once again become a part of proper society.
One major part is allowing them to use their natural gifts to earn a living as a man……… not relegated to “boy” occupations
Well I respect your point of view , and appreciate your sharing it. You make some very cogent points. His, as most cases of abuse struck a deep chord in many of us. He did in fact serve his time but that doesn’t mean I will ever forgive his egregious abuse of helpless dogs. And I don’t know what his religious beliefs were before jail but I really dislike using the “God” card as a way to ask for public acceptance. I hope he has found another path for himself and is sorry for his crimes.
