I share my birthday (January 29th) with Oprah, or since I’m older, I should rephrase that… Oprah shares her birthday with ME!
A few years ago, I came up with a brilliant idea! I wrote Oprah and suggested that she have a special birthday show and fill the audience ONLY with (over the age of 50) women born on January 29th. We could have a huge party with a scrumptious birthday cake, and if Oprah wanted to send us all home with presents..I wouldn’t be ungracious enough to turn it down!
I’ve written to Oprah several times through the years and have even received follow up phone calls from staff members, but this idea didn’t even get an email reply.
Now she’s “retiring” and my idea will never come to life! Boo-hoo!!
You can’t blame a Birthday Girl for trying to have some FUN on her special day.
p.s. There’s another winter storm heading to our mountains on..you guessed it…January 29th!!

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Miss Debi:
Who cares if a snow storm is coming a great excuse to curl up with a good book and not do a darn thing all day long because after all you will be snow bound and IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY!
Thanks for the Birthday wishes! Right now, we have about a foot of snow in the mountains of North Carolina!
I have family in Golden Valley, North Carolina. Love the mountains

We were destined to be friends! I celebrate birthdays…half birthdays and anything else that calls for cake, icecream and balloons!!!
Sorry I’m late, but it sounds like you girls are still partying. Then again, my birhday wishes aren’t late, they’re just 363 days early.
Happy Birthday, Debi. Have the time of your life this year!
Debi: Which of your letters to Oprah generated call-backs from her staff?
One letter had to do with my Mother and her long extended illness and the other concerned a column I had written about an extraordinary lady!( Oprah always lists the topics she is looking to cover on her website.) This past year, I received a call from a staff member of the Jay Leno Show which ended up being a really funny experience. The call caught me completely off guard! I had written them a really funny letter during their writing strike telling them not to worry because Debi Drecksler, in Asheville, North Carolina, was available to write comedy for them! When the girl called and started asking me questions, I could barely talk!So much for my big comedy break!
Sorry, but I found this thread and read your response only two minutes ago.
Debi! You’ve got an “in” with Jay Leno! Have you kept in touch with the person who called you? Do the other comics know? Sell that man some material–he needs it.
Happy stand-upping (standing up?)
Happy Belated Birthday, Debi. You sound like me: There just HAS to be B’day Cake and something special going on! On the 8th of February I’ll be “65 and still alive”. We are going out for Dinner and then to a Comedy Club. For 21 years I celebrated my b’day with my aunt, who had adopted me, and when I left for Canada from Europe, I called her every year on our b’day until she died in 1991. I did not mind sharing my b’day with such a wonderful lady.
