Wondering if bullying and suicides are replacing reading and writing in our schools.

elizabeth: Phoebe Prince and her family came to this country looking for their piece of our American Dream. I just hope our American Dream does not include being bullied to the point of taking one’s life. For the Prince family, it is exactly what their American nightmare is all about now.

And Phoebe was not bullied for all the reasons we think of when it comes to being bullied. She was pretty and smart. Makes sense to want her dead, eh? I bet they thought they would give the fat kids and the Goth kids the week off.

To the nine kids who bullied and physically abused her – you killed her. Kids are killing kids without benefit of a weapon. How clever are they? And the parents and the schools are just turning a blind eye to it because this is what kids do. We live in a different world now. We live in a Mean Girls society. And I am just glad I am not in school anymore. It could kill you.

Laurie: Just in case you’re not totally enraged, there seems to be a new internet fun activity called “trolling.” Aptly named since I think of a troll as being a disgusting human being that lives under a bridge and scares people. These trollers seek out the families of children who have recently committed suicide with the hopes that there is a memoriam Facebook page. And then they insult the dead person. Now how damn bored can these freaks be?

elizabeth: Maybe we live in a world of unreasonable entitlement on the parts of some people. Hell yes. Maybe doing the right thing is not as much fun as robbing a young girl of her life. Most of you nine kids are going to live long lives (and hopefully suffer from your actions) but she will always be 15. Maybe we have lost our souls as a society? Maybe these nine never had one. I don’t want to hear their parents go on about what good kids they are. There are psychopaths born everyday.

Laurie: I wish the nine would suffer into eternity, but I suspect that if you didn’t have a conscience when you were doing the bullying you won’t have one after the victims have killed themselves. In reality-show days where the cream is quickly crushed and the ruder, cruder, more devious and dishonest jerk rises to the top, how can we expect our children to behave any better? So punish the kids and punish the parents. And I use the term “parents” loosely (just as they supervise and raise their kids). Sperm and egg do not a parent make.

elizabeth: I hope the school system gets their complacent butts kicked. Phoebe’s parents made them aware that their daughter was being mistreated and nothing was done. Note to schools: you got to be proactive. Being active after the fact just leads to untimely funerals.

Laurie: Can you imagine how worse the lives of the victims would have been if the school intervened? It would be like having your mom tell off that boyfriend who didn’t treat you right. Oh the agony. I say arrest the damn parents for not teaching their children. Or even more radical, once you’ve raised a bully, vasectomies and tube tyings should not be far behind.

This is a global problem unfortuantely – many, many children kill themselves. Lack of understanding, lack of consequences, lack of supervision – all contibute to these tragedies.

Parental supervision seems to be a dying art – maybe we should adopt a system similar to China – no children until you are 30 years old and then (instead of China) only two children. Also parental classes in schools, colleges and after the birth of a child.

All this stupis human rights has gone too far – there was nothing wrong with a clip around the ear if you were doing something wrong!!

Society is plunging down a bottomless pit into ‘you know where’. Echoes of Sodem & Gorrmorah maybe – we (mankind) need a wake up call before it is too late.

The only people that can make that change are women.
