It looks like he’s being “goosed”;  or perhaps the more accurate term would be “pelicaned.”

When I was a young girl, way back when, one of my favorite things was my Bozo and the Birds book. (Bozo was huge in the 50’s.)  Along with the book came a record (yes, vinyl). Bozo narrated the book; I just loved it. I remember there was spoonbill and a toucan. I think there was a flamingo and a pelican too. Most little girls liked bluebirds, you remember them from the Disney classic movies don’t you? I always liked the more unusual birds. Maybe Bozo brainwashed me; I don’t know. Funny thing, I don’t like clowns anymore. I’m not scared or anything, I just don’t care for them.

In 1991 we took our kids to Puerto Vallarta for spring break. While on that trip I went to a cove all by myself. I was the only person there. While I was sitting in the water, brown pelicans flew in and sat next to me. Eventually there were at least 40 pelicans floating within 30 feet of me. It was kinda strange, but extremely cool. Too bad I didn’t have a waterproof camera with me.

Around 10 years later we were driving the kids to Key West during spring break. We were on one of the many bridges that you cross; when I looked out the window there was pelican flying, just next to our car. I never even saw him flap his wings. It was as if he was going on the trip with us. He was huge and fast. Very cool.

There was a funny clip yesterday on the news about a reporter in Australia and a pelican. It looks like he’s being “goosed”;  or perhaps the more accurate term would be “pelicaned.” Well either way, it’s pretty funny.

Yes, that Australian guy being goosed by his friend was all over our local news yesterday, and I'm still cracking up over it. The reporter is so cute, giggling and pseudo-screaming, and that lady bird was tenacious--"Gimme that booty, gimme that booty." That'll teach him to stop playing hard to get! I guess it's hard to find a good mate regardless of your species, but it's rumored that as of this afternoon she's blocked his e-mails and has decided to move on; I hope she let him down easy.

I've got to stop hanging out with you, meigler, even as we write some operative is typing into your dossier "brainwashed by Bozo..."

Bozo was scary...can you hear me in the back?

Yakkity you're probably right about the dossier. (Boy would I love to get a peek at it.) You really didn't like Bozo back then? Everybody I knew liked Bozo. I remember watching him on TV; and I imagine that record was unplayable by the time we got rid of it.  Of course back then there weren't scary clowns, or scary clowns that made the news anyway. Do you like clowns now?

No, I was never a Bozo or a Clarabelle fan, they frightened me (maybe because they were so big), but I did like the sad clown Emmett Kelly. I had a jack-in-the-box with pictures of EK on its sides. There was a hand-puppet clown named Clowny on Super Adventure Circus, and I enjoyed him. I loved Soupy Sales, the world's greatest clown.

My current (and only) favorite clown is Craig Ferguson, a modern day clown if ever there were one. Otherwise, I really haven't given clowns much thought lately, though from the neck down Ronald McDonald's got a nice buff body...or is that Carrot Top?

Do you still have your Bozo and the Bird book and record? Those red and yellow children's 45s were so much fun. I found my fave "Katie the Kangaroo" on eBay a few years ago.

I wish I did. That would be great to share with my grandchildren someday; assuming that by then I'll still know my name.
