Another problem came to light a few days ago. It was mentioned on CNN and USAToday. I hesitated to mention it earlier because of all the devastation in Haiti. Obviously, this is less than a trifle compared to any part of that situation. However, for some people, this is what they turn to when they feel stressed. And for now at least, it can’t be found anywhere. And what is this magical substance that so many find so soothing? It’s chocolate chip cookie dough in a tube. You know it. It’s that refrigerated tube of wonderfulness that can usually be found in the dairy section of your local grocery. However, Nestle recently pulled all the tubes of their cookie dough from supermarket shelves after an outbreak of e-coli.
Now as everyone who knows me knows, I’m a foodie. Food is my drug of choice; and it seems like I’ve been in a battle with it most of my life. Sometimes I’m winning; sometimes it’s winning. (Usually, it’s winning.) Right now though I’m holding my own. One reason that I’m doing OK though is that I don’t have any of that cookie dough here right now. (Actually it isn’t just that exact item.) I’m pretty much a goner where any unbaked cookie is concerned. If a cookie recipe says it will make 36 cookies, 36 never make it to the cooling rack. I prefer an unbaked cookie to a baked one. I know, it’s a sickness.
I’ve read before that you’re not supposed to eat raw cookie dough–that it can make you sick. Well I guess I have a good immune system because to my knowledge it’s never made me sick. I know I’m not the only one who likes it. Otherwise, why would there be cookie dough ice cream? All my family knows my weakness for cookie dough. Cookie dough is just behind birthday cake, which is my kryptonite. Do you have a guilty pleasure–food wise?

I love this! You know me well Yakkityson. You are wise indeed. I did wake up once after a blackout with nothing on but an old cheerleader outfit and an empty tube of cookie dough stuck to the side of my face; and yes, I always want it the next morning. Who am I kidding? I want it EVERY morning, I am a doughaholic. Can you pls call A&E and get me on Intervention?
You two are cracking me up!!!
OMG…..LMAO!!! Too funny. Thanks for my big chuckle of the day! Hahahaaaaaaaaa
If there are any chocolate chips in that dough, meigler, hand it over.
For me, CHOCOLATE is my Kryptonite. I’d eat nails if they were wrapped in chocolate. I don’t care for cranberries (except the juice) but when I found chocolate covered cranberries in the supermarket recently, I could barely stop myself from opening the bag before I got to the cashier. I’m convinced that my thighs are made of chocolate (if you cut me, do I not bleed…………….. chocolate??)
And I just joined the 2010 Weight Loss Challenge here on VN…
Sigh…
Yes five to nine, chocolate is an excellent choice for a guilty pleasure. Do you like light or dark? I prefer milk chocolate myself.
Preference? Are you kidding? My only requirement is the presence of cocoa powder on the list of ingredients. ^_^
The only thing I can’t abide is that abomination called “white chocolate”. In my world, if it ain’t brown, it ain’t chocolate.
White chocolate reminds me of the bars of cocoa butter I used to rub on my skin when I lay out and roast myself like a chicken. I’m paying for that stupidity now.
Ice cream, ice cream or ice cream works for me. Did I say ice cream? It cannot be in the house. Period. I will go through a half gallon in a day and a half. Sometimes sooner if I’m really ticked off. Food is definitely my drug of choice also. I’m on a perpetual weight maintenance program. I’ve been up and down all my life. I do pretty well. I’ll indulge and then cut back elsewhere…..like not eat dinner for a month cause I’m on the ice cream plan. I exercise a lot and that helps me. For me it’s easier to exercise that eat right. I like moving my body. I’m a physicaly kinda gal.
Currently Edy’s French Silk is workin’ for me. Hey, it’s 1/2 the fat and 1/3 the calories. I justify in whatever works. What really irritates me is these companies who went from 1/2 gallon to 1.5 quarts. GRRRRR! If I didn’t love it so much I’d buoycot!
We have the same ice cream here under the name Dryer’s. It is fabulous! In our house though, Doug puts the hurt on ice cream more than I. I’m more into baked, or unbaked goods.
My guilty pleasures with foods have always moved about. I was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic 5 years ago. I put the food urges in its place by asking mysel f”Is this indulgence worth my foot or eye sight?”Most of the time I stick to a pretty well defined food regieme. “My Guilty Pleasure”is actually an activity, normally followed by 30 somethings, and younger, predominately males. I love to do dice rolling D&D like games around a table with a host of (quite a bit younger) friends. One group is about to have its 8th year anniversary. We pot luck our dinner and spend between 4 and 8 hours of character acting and adventuring and laugh ourselves silly! I’m proud to be a NERD, and the fact that around ther gaming table there is no agism sexism or social one upsmans ship. I have found it to be a wonderful way to blow off stress, and treat my creative side, off stage.
My good friend Evelyn’s husband has been a D&D dungeonmaster for years. He gets together with his group once or twice a month. (I’m not sure I could keep up with all of it.) It certainly is better for you than cookie dough.
OK, my guilty pleasure is having left over pizza for breakfast….a habit that started in my teens as one of my best friends parents owned a pizza place (back then we called them pizza parlors) and we would always stay over her house Sat. night because her dad brought the left over pizza and we would have it for breakfast before going to church…..loved it then, love it now.
Oh yeah, same here. It is some good stuff. Makes me think of my college days. I think Fred Flintstone was my delivery kid back then.
Too funny — her dad used to sell pizza by the piece and they were square…that was when a pizza treat was really something special…..to get it free was heaven!!
At Pizza Rustica in South Beach , Miami, FL, pizza it is still square. It’s so good it’s almost a religious experience.
I have no cravings for sugar or chocolate. But my downfall is pure butter!! I have to restrain myself by eating substitutes, otherwise I would LOOK like a mound of butter!! I do allow myself to eat it from time to time!
Miss GloJean are you related to Paula Deen, the butter Queen? She eats so much butter I think she gets the bulk rate on angioplasties.
