One more time with gusto

Well here we go again. Evelyn and I walked back into 24 hour Fitness yesterday. I was half expecting the personal trainer to see us, point at us and start screaming, kinda like Donald Sutherland in the remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

The location we went to is only about a mile or so from my new address. Now, more than ever, there won’t be any excuse not to get to the gym. So, with songs in our hearts we went to the gym. Evelyn is a big believer in water aerobics so she headed straight to the pool. I headed to the treadmill.

Since I’ve misplaced my iPod, I rely on watching TV to get me through the tedium of the treadmill. Lucky for me, the only treadmill that faced a TV that I cared to watch (that means no sports or headline news) was just next to one that had a fitness zealot doing her thing. Of course, I use the word zealot in only the nicest way.

Call me nosy, but I always glance at the digital display on other peoples treadmills. I really wish I hadn’t done it this time. Whether she’d been running the whole time or not I can’t say, but as I climbed on my treadmill I noticed that she’d been on her machine for almost an hour; and she was sure as Hell running now; and nothing was jiggling. How dare she! And to add insult to injury she had the elevation cranked up to the max so she looked like she was running up the backside of Lombard St. in San Fransisco.

I should’ve found her inspiring. I didn’t.

Undaunted, I hopped on and began my workout. I decided to skip the warm up and instead set the blistering pace of 3.4 mph.

I want you to know that I stayed on the infernal machine for 15 minutes before calling it quits for the day. I figured that wasn’t too bad for the first day back in over 3 months. I’ll do more today. When I stopped yesterday that female android next to me was still running. She was infuriating.

Nevertheless I felt virtuous and ended my day by having grilled tilapia w/brown rice, salad and fresh fruit for dinner. It’s going to be a long, long trip that for me that cannot ever really end. I know that after about 10 days I get in the zone, where I start really looking forward to going.

I’m not there yet.

15 minutes?  Get real.  Bring your eyeglasses and a book.  That is what i did today for 45 minutes on the one that walks on air, i read - i do not know the name of that gizmo -.  I forgot my book so i took some magazines but most of the pages are advertisements.  So bring a book next time and try to stay on the thing for more than a 1/2 hour.  You will NOT start burning fat until after 20 mins.  But exercise will not do it for me.  No matter how much i exercise if i eat more than 1200 calories a day, i gain weight.  Write everything down just once and you will know how much you are overeating.

When I quit doing before I was doing 35 minutes; but I figuedI’d better ease back into it. When I’m really in the groove, I use the daily plate at Livestrong.com. It’s a great tool.
