I rarely, if ever, enter contests or sweepstakes. For one thing, I’m not known for winning anything. Imagine my delight when a big box of Cottonelle toilet paper and Cottonelle wipes arrived on my doorstep for me to try, as part of the “Name the Cottonelle Clean Routine” campaign. Right there, I felt like I already won.
When I was growing up, it was impolite to discuss one’s bathroom routine. Heaven forbid you talked about toilet paper in mixed company. That’s why my mother always called it “twip”. Even on our shopping lists, we would never write those two embarrassing words, toilet paper, lest another shopper see “our business”. My, how things have changed. Now I have the chance to “name the Cottonelle Clean Routine”.
The truth is I already preferred Cottonelle before that package arrived. Perhaps it’s because we always bought a different brand when I was younger. Yes, there were thousands of sheets in the other brand’s “twip”, but the sheets weren’t soft or absorbent. Practical, maybe. Long-lasting, maybe. But as I get older, I find myself picking and choosing the things that matter to me, and soft “twip” is on that list. Who needs twenty sheets of that anorexic brand, when a couple of fluffy, plush Cottonelle sheets will do the trick?
I think of “twip” like I think of bed linens. What do I want next to my skin? Do I want to sleep on scratchy polyester or do I want to sleep on fine pima cotton?
Recently, I was on the road, and boy, did I wish I brought the Cottonelle toilet paper and Cottonelle wipes with me. I could have used them. That’s when I christened it. I call it “naturally soft, naturally fresh, naturally Cottonelle“. It’s a mouthful to say, but it’s true. It describes all the qualities of cotton that I love in a bathroom routine – a soft, fresh, and natural clean. What could be better than that?
