Time Flies in Boomer World Hot Conversation

Ringo Starr turned 70 this week.  It’s hard to believe that the drummer of the young English rock group that took America by storm in the 1960s is a member of the post boomer generation.

In my mind, The Beatles have never aged. I still see them as four handsome young musicians with the bowl-type haircuts playing for millions of screaming, adoring fans. I was seven years old when I sat glued to my TV set watching them on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Ringo’s birthday is a reminder that I, too, am getting older.

They say time flies when you’re having fun. I say time flies whether you’re having fun or not. Ask Ringo.

By the way, what was your all-time favorite Beatles’ song?

I think you all already named them. I just love them all. By the way, Ringo looks better at 70 than I do at 61. Rocking and Rolling must be the new anti-aging secret!

    Hey Jude,

Ringo looks great! I would have said 63 tops. I think he looks better than Paul and Paul was the cutie.

I agree with you Beverly – time flies whether you’re having fun or not.

Favorite Beatles Song?  This answer can’t count any of their solo work because then I’d have an entirely different response.

The body of work the Beatles produced makes it very hard to pick a favorite song – I absolutely love Across the Universe, The Long and Winding Road, Let it Be and Two of Us (are you “sensing a pattern”? Yes, I love that album (Let It Be).

But then there’s  Hey Jude, All My Loving, Glass Onion, Hello Goodbye, Love You Too, I Wanna Hold Your Hand, Not a Second Time, Penny Lane, She Loves You…How can a person pick just one all time favorite?  They were so prolific…

Good question. As you can see, I can’t answer it.

    peace always,

      teabird,

The songs that top my list are “And I Love Her”, “I Saw Her Standing There”, “If I Fell”, “Eight Days a Week”, I’m sure there are more that I just can’t think of right now…:)

And I forgot about those!  Also favorites.  And after I responded I looked up a list of Beatles songs… Truly, an impossible question to answer! : )

my favourite song was by Paul McC and the much adored Michael Jackson “Ebony and Ivory”.  I lived in Hamburg, Germany when I was a teenager and actually met the Beatles, when they were still the “Quarrymen”. My gal pal and I had snuck into the Star Club and into the Top Ten Club, pretending to be older [high-heels, tight skirts, make-up and up-does with the hair]. I guess we passed for 16 at least, when we were only 14.  I stood in front of the stage and pointed to John Lennon, and turning to my friend I said in German:” Yikes, he’s ugly!”  The nerve!!  And to think, those guys made it sooo big. John came over to the edge of the stage and asked if I could speak English.  I just shook my head “No” and my friend and I retreated back into the crowd.  Ahh, the memories. Yes, time passes quickly. Now, here I am at 65 and it all seems sooo long ago. By the way, I still have my German friend Renate – from 55 years ago.   Was Paul the youngest of the Band? Ringo was not with the Quarrymen, he joined later and the original drummer stayed behind in Germany and married there. Later back in Liverpool the Band’s name was changed to Beatles.
