Every day is Valentine’s Day when we’re giving love and pleasure to ourselves or sharing with another. Here are a few of my absolute favorite pleasure enhancers.
These are what I would want with me if I were stranded alone on a desert island that had a wall socket, a supply of batteries, and acomfortable pillow for my arthritic neck.
We’re all different, so just because a particular product is my solo sex partner of choice, that doesn’t mean you won’t prefer another.

In Better Than I Ever Expected: Straight Talk About Sex After Sixty
I’m not the only one who loves the Eroscillator: Dr. Ruth Westheimer endorses it, and one of my readers wrote about how this supertoy gave his wife her first orgasm in six years.
For super-intense clitoral stimulation and an inevitable happy ending (not always assured at our age, you know) the Hitachi Magic Wand is, well, magic! It is heavy and loud and has to be plugged in, but so what? It ranks right up there with the automobile and the iPod as one of technology’s greatest inventions.
Pair that Magic Wand clitorally with the LELO Gigi vaginally, and you’ve got double magic. All the LELO pleasure objects are fantastic, and you might like the size or shape of one of the others more, but I love the slim size and G-spotting design of this one the best.

I’ve tried a few “Rabbits” (dual-action vibrators), and the only one that sent me to outer space was the Snow Bunny. The size, shape, distance between parts, and vibrational intensity were right for me. Your mileage may vary, and luckily, there are many Rabbits to choose from if the idea of clitoral stimulation + penetration in one toy appelas to you.
And don’t forget the lubricant:
Liquid Silk is my favorite lubricant to enhance the joy of friction with a partner or a favorite sex toy. It’s creamy, feels natural — smooth without being overly slick, and doesn’t get tacky. Maybe best of all, it won’t harm silicone toys (as silicone lubes will), yet feels better than the other water-based lubricants I’ve tried. If you haven’t settled on a personal favorite, I always recommend trying a sampler selection from a favorite online or walk-in woman-friendly sex toy shop. Don’t rely on the selection available at your local drugstore.
Take pleasure today — and often.

I’m surprised you didn’t specifically list ones that were waterproof. ;)
I wrote this before the waterproof issue came up in another post. If you go to the online stores I link to, you can do your own exploration if waterproof is important to you. Exploring at these shops is fun to do anyway, because your mileage may vary, as they say!
Just reviewed a wonderful new one that’s waterproof: http://www.vibrantnation.com/our-blog-circle/better-than-i-ever-expected-sex-and-aging/mystic-wand-vibrator–magic-companion-for-trip-to-moon-/.
Thank you. I’ve been experimenting with toys and so far haven’t found anything that beats Hannah and her five fingers. However, after reading this, I think I’ll look into at least one that you listed. Thanks again.
I agree that the Hitachi Magic wand is awesome. Is the Eroscillator as strong? My favorite lubricant is non-toxic and therefore edible
so I highly recommend: Rainbow Golden Moisturizing Oil (from Whole Foods) that’s made of all natural ingredients (almond oil, peanut oil, olive oil etc.) and tastes good!
Thanks for sharing!!
Did you ever try the Panabrator? It’s the big sister to the Magic Wand. I have one I’ve had for almost 20 years. When I thought it had died a few years ago, I almost freaked out. Panasonic doesn’t make it anymore, so I’m getting another one from EBAY. If you like the Magic Wand, you’ll love it.
The Eroscillator isn’t as storng as the Hitachi, but it has a completely different feeling. The vibrations are totally different, and extremely pleasurable, especially with the marshmallow looking attachment!
What would you specifically recommend for those who are considered to be BBW’s or SSBBW’s. I find that many of the products out there, just don’t seem to get the job done. Thanks.
I can’t tell what is lacking in the products you’ve tried. Can you be more specific about what you need?
Delighted you shared your special choices, Joan. I too recommend the ones you selected and value the reminder that every one’s anatomy is different. Desert Islands without batteries or electricity are surely challenging. Fingers and water sprays still work wonders (providing the desert may have some tropical spots). Oh, and what about going green (bananas covered by a condom still work). Sharing tips for grownups between the sheets is fun. I’ve an entire chapter on The great Joy Ride and the use of vibrators and other sex toys in my book: Sex for Grownups: Dr. Dorree Reveals the Truths, Lies and Must-Tries for Great Sex After 50. So ladies ( and men) read up. There’s tons of fun to share. I join Joan in asking what’s your favorite?

> bananas covered by a condom — that would be “filling,” but where’s the clitoral stimulation?
