What Will Your Legacy Be?

Earlier this month a member of the paddling community died. He was a world class paddler doing world class stuff. However, what people talked about was what a good guy he was, how kind he was, how generous he was. He was successful in the best way, he was successful being a human being and a man. I hope the same can be said about me.

I’m a former high school teacher and one thing that I always told my students is to think about their name.
“What kind of reaction will people have when they hear your name?” I asked them.
Not everyone will like you in life — that’s just life, but to be decent and true to yourself and to treat everyone with dignity is the best way I know how to live.
I am sorry for the loss of your friend.  It’s never easy.

I’ve had friends who died paddling. I knew him in the community. You’re right though about what people think of you when they think of your name. Not everyone will like you, but they should all remember you with respect.

Watermusic, I am sure you will be remembered with respect! <3

It is so hard to lose a good friend and, as we age, it seems to happen more often! It always serves as a reminder to ‘be there’ with our friends while they are alive! So sorry for your loss.
