What is your Spirit Olympian moment?

I, like many of you, have been watching the Olympics this past weekend. Yesterday Canada’s Alex Bilodeau, won the first gold medal on Canadian soil and Canadians everywhere began the celebration. Caught up in the excitement I found myself wondering if I too can experience such a moment in my life. To be honest, athletic ability is not one of my greatest strengths. Yet I have come to know each of us is born with a unique gift. I love that because no matter our circumstance we all have the portential to reshape our world. I  then looked up the definition of Olympian and here is what I found “far exceeding in magnitude or degree”. I came to the conclusion that when we find and are living our unique gift it is possible for us to each live a special spiritual Olympian moment. Have you lived your Spirit Olympian moment and how has it changed your life?

Uhm, to be honest….no. I enjoy watching the Olympics and admire the athletes for their abilities, but I’ve never had any huge desire to be a sports superstar.

I would say one of those moments was this past Christmas….not in any kind of athletic way, but definitely in a emotional olympic kind of way.. my partner and his daughter reconciled after about 15 years….and this was his first Christmas with her family and his 3 little grandchildren…..it felt normal and great and something we had all worked toward for a while…..no presents needed for me, just seeing them together was enough….it was something that we both thought would never happen, and the emotional hurdles they had to jump were indeed Olympian to them, but they did it in gold medal style…

Although I have had some of those sporting moments, and loved them. I think having my children, has been the most challenging and rewarding. It’s a never ending process, good, bad or parent/teacher interviews. Holding it together, waking up with a smile at 2am for feeding, waking up at 3am, because you told them “never get in a car when someone’s been drinking”….and on it goes, taking care of myself as a mother, helping them grow up.

I love some of your responses and decided to share my own moment. I lost my mom this past April. While she was alive she used to soften clay for me so I could make small hearts to thank people who were good to us or to me when I was out and about. When my mom died I continued making the hearts and it has become my mission to spread the message of kindness and validate people. This past Saturday I was out picking up a little something for someone special to me. I had one of the little hearts in my pocket and gave it to the cashier because she is always pleasant whenever I go through the checkout. I gave her a heart as a thank you for doing a great job asking her to continue passing it on to others who are kind to her. Further down in the line there was a woman who overheard us talking and asked me if I was the one who made the little hearts. She told me she knew of a friend who had been given one. She also told me she had a heart attack a few years back and wanted to know how to get one. I told her I had one in the car. We met outside and I passed her the heart telling her I was grateful to have connected with her. We shared a hug and I came away with such a richness in my heart and a smile that could surely light up all of the homes in our town.  While I know that might be a slight exaggeration it is how I really felt. Every time I meet a stranger and extend a heart I feel as though my mom is beside me and I am doing what I was born to do… connecting with other hearts. It was one of my many Spirit Olympian moments and I look forward to even more in the future.

What a beautiful story. If I may, I like to borrow your idea & pass it on. I have two sons. As my oldest hit his college years, heads started hitting between him & my husband & there always seemed to be a lot of tension & misunderstanding between the two of them.  Finally, my husband & son sat down & really talked it out. That moment was the biggest & best, my Spirit Olympian moment!! the understanding that developed between the two is truly amazing.

I enjoined reading all the stories here, they touch me deeply. debanne

My Spiritual Olympian moment would have to be on Nov. 7th, 2008.  I was doing a Vision Quest in Sedona, AZ and was atop of Cathedral Rock when I was Struck by Lightning.  During the time immediately after that, I was able to witness the Hand of God reaching towards me with a Lamp.  This one moment has forever changed, implanted and began a journey in my life.  My hair turned to Silver and I have grown into the moment of “now”.  My whole life changed the moment the Lightning struck me.  I have grown, matured and made a connection that will forever be printed upon my Soul.  May each of you be Blessed – Kanatka ~~
