TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY HEART! Hot Conversation

In April, Maya Angelou was interviewed by Oprah on her 70 birthday. Oprah asked her what she thought of growing older. And, there on television, she said it was ‘exciting.’ Regarding body changes, she said there were many, occurring every day…like her breasts. They seem to be in a race to see which will reach her waist, first.  The audience laughed so hard they cried. She is such an honest woman, with so much wisdom in her words!  She speaks the words of my heart.  Maya Angelou said this:
I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow. “I’ve learned that you can tell a lot about a person by the way he/she
handles these three things: a rainy day, lost luggage, and tangled Christmas tree lights. ”I’ve learned that regardless of your relationship with your parents, you’ll miss them when they’re gone from your life. “I’ve learned that making a ‘living’ is not the same thing as ‘making a life.’  ”I’ve learned that life sometimes gives you a second chance.  ”I’ve learned that you shouldn’t go through life with a catcher’s mitt on both hands; you need to be able to throw some things back. “I’ve learned that whenever I decide something with an open heart, I usually
make the right decision.  “I’ve learned that even when I have pains, I don’t have to be one.  ”I’ve learned that every day you should reach out and touch someone. People  love a warm hug, or just a friendly pat on the back. “I’ve learned that I still have a lot to learn.  ”I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”

  1. I am hurt my sons broke my heart and choose to live with my Ex. We just finished the divorce and my sons went after his money and his manipulation. The are 17 and 22 years old. I lived with pot smoker lazy no love no help from him until I’ve had enough. I paid all the family bill and the boys have seen all that. He is a weak link so they went with him and I stayed alone.         I just happen to love her as a person.No i have never met her but when she speaks her voice touches something in me and i just have to listened.She is a person that looks past color barriers and simlply just loves to speak about doing right and being right.Some of her writings i love are,Phenomenal Woman,I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings,The Heart of A Woman.  Also this Quote by Maya,

        ” A bird does’nt sing because it has an answer,it sings because it has a song”. ” The honorary duty of a human being is to love”.

        Thank you so much for being interested in my likes of Maya Angelou. Just for the record i also like Alice Walker,Sidney Poitier, and one of my favorite old classic movie is, Barefoot in the Park with Jane Fonda and Robert Redford. It is so funny!

        I loved her On the Pulse of a Morning…the poem that she read at President Clinton’s Inaugural.  I even quoted part of it in my admission paper to my Doctoral Program.

        “A Rock, A River, A Tree…

        Today, the Rock cries out to us, clearly and forcefully,

    “I’ve learned that even when I have pain, I don’t have to be one.” Yes!

    This is such a beautiful lesson to learn. At its core, this teaches us to allow our pain to roil through us and away from us. We don’t have to capture it and foment an ugly storm to unleash upon others. Yet that is what we do when we concentrate our energy on how miserable we feel and how unjust the situation seems to be. The storm brews.

    But we are free, each of us, in every moment to define our response to what goes on around us. We can choose to act from compassion and thoughtfulness instead of blasting off thoughtlessly into reactivity, which not only doesn’t help resolve our pain but implants the pain in the hearts of those around us. When we are being rational, we say we would never want to hurt our loved ones. Yet, if we react without thinking, this is the course we set for ourselves and for them.

    Take a deep breath, hold it, then release it. Stop, feel, think, respond. We transform ourselves in the moment we let go of our anger and release our sorrow as we exhale. We are fresh, renewed, and kind once more.

    I am from a town in Arkansas close to where Maya Angelou was raised.  She is amazing.  Her words are so full of wisdom and have been a tremendous help in my life.

    I think she is so inspiring to any age..either young or old you get a lot from her wisdom..I just turned 50 and have resolve to be a better person in my 5o’s and up than I was when I was younger.  Life throws you curve balls and my new motto when it does I will pitch them right back and see what lesson I learned from it.

    Great article except one minor detail (typo?) – Maya Angelou turned 80, not 70. Which makes all of her recent accomplishments all the more amazing. I hope we cherish her – Ms. Angelou is a national treasure (and should receive a Kennedy Center honor if she hasn’t already).
