Death

No, I’m not dying; at least I don’t think so! I am 63 and in relatively good health except for the usual aches and pains. I am not overly religous,in other words,I don’t go to church every Sunday but I do believe in God. Don’t get me wrong, I am not obsessing about it but ever since I entered my 60′s, I have been thinking about it. I know it’s going to happen to us all but I find myself diagnosing myself every time I have an ache or a pain! It could have something to do with the fact that my own mother died of cancer at 59 and my father died at 69; obviously, I don’t have longevity on my side. But I keep thinking that I have such a better lifestyle than they had; they both smoked, I never smoked! I am not obese, not particulary thin either; menopause got me in the weight department! I work out, TRY to eat healthfully; okay, so I have to have chocolate every day! Anyway, I was wondering if those of you my age think about it and how you get it off your mind. I still work and will probably retire at the end of 2011 so I have plenty to do; good husband, kids, grandkids. It happens mostly when I am quiet and my mind wanders. I really need it to stop so I can live my rich, full life! As usual, thanks for listening.

Honey, if death showed up one day and said you’re next, I’d say get in line buddy, I’ve got far too much to do. I think we all think about it once in a while, that’s pretty natural. I say ‘put it on the bucket list’ in the last position.

We are ALL dying………what do we want to do in the meantime!!?  I believe we are all here to make a difference; that is what I am doing.

Stop thinking in terms of death as an ending.  Think of it as a new beginning…places to go, things to do, and new people to meet.  Study up on what is expected in this new adventure.  Perhaps it will make the journey more worthwhile, while yet still in the body.

    God bless, J

    Hi Jforth,

Since I am in my sixties, as well, I have given death a lot of thought. I think it’s the diagnosis and suffering that I dread the most! Also, leaving my sweet family is very sad to think about.

I have read a lot about death, biographies, memoirs, metaphysics, science and have gotten to some interesting information. Steven Levine, who wrote “Who Dies”, a great book, has worked with the dying for most of his life. He has come to the conclusion that we are “animated energy” that “recurs” to express. Life must, and will, express itself! He has observed through ‘near death’ experiences (by patients) that “the capacity to love” is what we take with us.

Many years ago (around 33) I had a near death experience and ‘returned’ from a brilliant light filled with the grandest love…I called it JOY. Some may say this was a ‘biological’ experience, but my heart tells me differently.

My experience is pretty much described by the folks in this 57 minute interview given by Dr. Raymond Moody from his book “Life After Life”. Here is the link  http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/life-after-life/

Death is, more than likely, another transition we go through…a new adventure! If this isn’t the case. well, I love my sleep! :)

Birth and death are inevitable – it is the pattern of life.  There are tribes of people who mourn the birth and celebrate the death.  Why?  Because the birth is about facing all the trials and tribulations that individualize our soul.  And death is the culmination or graduation from those lessons into a peace.

I will only go kicking and screaming.  I dont think about it much.  I am 55.  I dont want dark thoughts to dictate my life.  However, if I was told its soon, I guess I would have a good cry and then get on with living.  One doesnt really know until one is faced with it.  God Bless you and I adore your attitude.
