In exchange for a review to post on Vibrant Nation, I will send a free copy of my book, Faith Beyond Belief: Stories of Good People Who Left Their Church Behind (published this month by Quest Books) to the one person who best describes (in one hundred words or less) what they think Faith Beyond Belief might mean.

I left my church of 31 years, after being voted out of membership…my name was put up on a big screen, followed by the words, “Conduct Unbecoming a Child of God.” This was on my birthday (8 years ago), Sept. 29th. The pain never goes away. I would like o review your book, if you tell me how I can do that.
Heather was hit by a car at 25 months. My first grandchild and I adored her. I can still hear on the phone. “Nana, come see me.”. She was lifeflighted to the University Hospital where we were taken to a room by the hospital Chaplin.
She didn’t have any broken bones but a lot of swelling in her brain. We slept on the floor outside of ICU for 72 hours. At first I prayed that God would make her well and give our baby back to us unchanged. I prayed and prayed and cried and cried. Sitting there on the floor with my back against the wall I suddenly had a sense of peace descend upon me. I prayed again but, this time my prayer was simply that no matter what – I wanted her to just be happy. A strong feeling of acceptance and love came over me.
She was in a coma for a long time before she came out. She is severely handicapped, requiring constant medical and personal care. She will always be a baby but she is also always happy.
I believe faith means letting go and giving it over to God to handle and knowing that he will.
Ok, so I have put off making a choice long enough. With all due respect to all three of your stories, I am going to offer the book to Hawk Lady. If you will send me an email (mmppjj at aol.com) with your address I will send you the book. You can post your review by simply going on the “books and entertainment” link on Vibrant Nation (http://www.vibrantnation.com/category/other-topics/books-entertainment/) Post your comment with the title: Book Review: Faith Beyond Belief: Stories of Good People Who Left Their Church Behind.
Hawk Lady, I will look forward to hearing from you.
All best,
Margaret
Thank you both for your heart felt responses. I am going to give this another day or two and then will make arrangements for the review.
Raised by an extremely strict Christian mother riddled with guilt because her only perfect son suffered extreme brain injury at 6. Fifteen years later after she’d turned 40, she was saddled with me, a girl – definitely neither wanted nor loved. Being an incredibly inquisitive child I was constantly judged and quoted scriptures about how evil I was and told I was destined to hell. As an adult, I shunned Christianity as I’d known it. After studying many religions, I’ve adopted a Buddhist philosophy. I’d love to say that I’m a Buddhist, but prefer to say that I’m a student of Buddhism. I don’t ever feel that I’ll be worthy of calling myself a true Buddhist but am happy with my beliefs.
