Last weekend, when I was still in Southern California (I’m back up north now), my nephew Bob took my mom and me to a great hotdog place. He knows how much I like to go to the places featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, so off we went to visit Fab Hot Dog in Reseda, California.
Fab Hot Dogs is located right in the heart of San Fernando Valley. (Click their name to go to their website with map.) It’s a simple, unpretentious little restaurant. What makes this place so amazing is it’s fantastic menu. I didn’t count the exact number of different hotdogs but I will guess there are at least thirty.
They start with a quality weiner. The owner, Joe Fabricini, imports his dogs from back east. They are all-beef hotdogs in a natural casing. You can get your dogs steamed, grilled, or deep-fried.
Most of the menu items are named for various places around the country. For instance, I had the Manhattan Dog which is a bacon wrapped hot dog with sauerkraut, red onion sauce and mustard. There is also the Kansas City Dog, the Chicago Dog, the Carolina Slaw Dog, LA Street Dog, Sonora Dog and so on. They even have a double-dog burrito.
There were five of us and we each tried something different. In addition, we also tried their deep fried tater tots and the garlic fries. Everything we ate was delicious. They make a variety of their own sauces that have very unique flavors.
