Finding a Kindred Literary Agent

For several years I have been writing articles, books, poetry, and even a fistful of children’s books. The writing, it seems, is the easy part. Finding an agent to represent me, and one who is REALLY an agent and not a self-defined “coach” has become a bit of an issue of late. Either that, or the online link that starts out being for the “perfect agent” to promote, actually turns into a “give us all your money and we’ll publish overseas.” It’s no wonder so many folks are turning to the media treat, Kindle for publishing, and by-passing the traditional means.

With that said, if anyone has had a simliar experience, and has found the combination to unlock the secret code to attracting the kindred lit agent of their dreams, please do share the secret!

My writings are, for the most part, nonfiction. Recently I entered my first fiction manuscript in a Hay House contest, but my mainstream writing is spiritual self-help.

Now here I am turning to the members of Vibrant Nation, because we are the “platform” to whom I write.

Thanks for your thoughts on this one!

Hmmmm – I have no advice, but you’re posting is exactly what I fear. One tactic I’ve been thinking about is looking at books (you know the ones that are actually in print at one of those endangered places called a book store) and try to discern who the agent might have been from reading the author’s acknowledgements.  Don’t know if this will work, but I thought it might be a way to weed out the phonies from the real thing.  Let me know if you try it and how it goes.
