I have been having very difficult dreams about my inability to start a vehicle. In one, I had to engage the clutch (which I have in my car) by a flint. I had to somehow ignite it to get the clutch to engage or the car wouldn’t start. In another I was in a helicopter/weather balloon. Again I couldn’t start it. It had a key, but it was flimsy and worn out and kept breaking.

Nancy,
I don’t have a professional answer for you – just letting you know that I also have frustrating dreams like that. Mine usually involve trying to get somewhere, but can’t find my shoes, so the entire dream is me searching or going backward because I can’t go forward without my shoes.
During my awake time, I’m often frustrated with myself about not being productive enough and feel I’m not moving forward. Thinking that might be causing these dreams.
Do you feel that your life isn’t moving forward in some way and it gets stalled or stopped? If so, than we may be on to something.
Sounds like a “weak starter”, are you bored at work? or need a challenge perhaps? Cppl Dream, never heard of that. I run a pharmaceutical shipping department and last night dreamt they wanted me to ship manure…shit, I have not been happy there for awhile but!! Thank God I’m taking a vacation soon!!!!
Something must have triggered that dream, it may have been something as simple as a broken computer!!
I use The Mystical Magical Marvelous World of Dreams by Wilda Tanner. According to her the car represents your body and life style. I use my dreams regularly. Dream Moods is also a good source. You are the best source though. What is your sense of what it means? How does this relate to what’s happening in your life now?
You guys are right on. Vonnie I do feel stalled. Carolann, I am bored at work. I’ve been doing the same thing for 14 years. We want to move to a nicer (people wise) part of the country. We are afraid to leave secure jobs at our ages. The trigger was that we just returned from a vacation where people were so nice. Watermusic I will check those out. Have they been accurate for your dreams? Sorry if this came through twice. It didn’t seem to go through.
Wow Nancy, I am in the same boat!! 17 years and right in the middle of making that first step. I’m trying a small side job while I’m still working so I can transition inot it full time hopefully, or just use it as a stepping stone to the next “thing” whatever that is!!! I just posted about that last night! LOL
Although they did not list “shit” as an interpetable dream, “manure” was very interesting!!! Good Luck to you <3
Yes, the book especially. However, I have used my dreams as a source of guidance and wisdom since I was very, very young. Eventually you learn the language of your dreams and to be able to discern between the types of dreams. Good luck. BTW, little changes can have big payoffs. If you are feeling like you can’t get something started you might try starting something really small, just doing something different helps. I have found that just doing the opposite can jog things loose and keep me limber.
Carolann, That is a good idea, maybe do a bit of something on the side that could lead in a different direction. I always feel it has to be a huge step.
Trust me I’m scared to even try this but I am a firm believer in moving forward, at 50 yrs old I started looking at the time I have left and trying to make things right for the remainder of my life! I ditched the bad marriage, moved and took on a new family and I couldn’t be happier. It’s just my job that makes me miserable!! Well Best of Luck!!
I quit my job to become a freelance writer back when people were losing their jobs, and let me tell you, it was scary. And while my spouse has been mentally and financially supportive, I’m not making enough to satisfy myself.
The dreams about losing my shoes were while I was still working the day job and miserable and they did stop eventually. I do feel like I know where I’m going now, but having trouble getting there.
I, too, want to move to a different city – this seems to be on a lot of people’s wish list. This 50-something age can be very unsettling.
Cars in dreams usually symbolize our ability to make decisions or a direction in life we are headed. If you can’t get a car started it may reflect a choice or direction you want to head, but can’t initiate.
The helicopter symbolism is somewhat similar as it reflects plans or projects you want to get off the ground, but feel you can’t.
For an intelligent look at dream symbolism that is backed by research you might want to look at dreambible.com. It might help shed light on a lot of the strange symbolism you are experiencing.
Carolann, it seems like you’ve made great progress. Good for you.
Vonnie, I’m glad to hear that others want to move. Sometimes I feel like the only one who can’t seem to settle in the city we chose to live. I feel like by this age I should feel content with what I have.
Chase, you really nailed it. My husband and I debate about who is going to make a decision as simple as where to go to dinner. Neither of us are decision makers. But when it comes to a big decision like moving, we need to get over it. The words you used, “a direction you want to head,” is exactly the stumbling block. We want to go somewhere with good weather and nice, educated people, etc. but can’t seem to focus on one so that we can target jobs. I will check out the book. Thanks for your right-on insight.
Nancy, I was talking to my husband about so many of us wanting to move and start over!! It reminds of the movie The Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. Maybe if we network enough people, they could “switch” homes for awhile to see what an area is like before making that final leap!!!
Not a bad idea except the job thing. I sure liked that little cottage in Ireland though.
If you know Gestalt Therapy, you have to interpret your dreams for yourself, but I think your dream means that you aren’t in control of your own life. That’s how
I interpret dreams like that.
In dreams, a car represents your life. Since there is no fire to initiate combustion in the engine, you are attempting to start it with a flint- something older than auto technology.
Again, as you attempt to start the car (your physical person), you see you have ineffective equipment (flimsy keys)/
Basically, it seems you feel your life needs to get going, or needs a jump start. I recommend praying for a breakthrough. Start something new.
