I am not dazzled by Brad Pitt, never have been – just didn’t get that he was one of the sexiest men alive or anything like that. But now I am dazzled! Brad has spearheaded a project to restore the lower 9th quarter of New Orleans with the greenest houses in the US.
In 2007, frustrated by the slow pace of rebuilding in the Lower Ninth, Brad Pitt set up a foundation called Make It Right; the foundation then commissioned 13 architecture firms to design affordable, green houses. The organization plans to build 150 homes, all for returning Lower Ninth residents. So far, just 15 of them are occupied, but those 15 make a big impression.
The houses are dreamy, energy efficient – from another world of design and beauty – it makes you believe in fairytales to see this once devastated region of New Orleans restored to a mythical solar haven of bliss. The gardens, the smiling people, the community rising…
Enjoy the video Brad made – it will make your heart sing out loud!

Shakespeare said, “alls well that ends well…” no better happy ending or shall I say beginning than this.
Go Brad Go!
Carolyn

Unlike you, I thought Brad Pitt was THE sexiest man alive when I saw Thelma and Louise-years ago. He’s still great to look at. I try not to listen to all the gossip about the actors and actresses’ personal lives, I want to see how well they do at their craft. Brad does very well, in my opinion- Benjamin Button comes to mind.
To me, the video I just watched, thanks for the link, Carolyn, goes way beyond his craft (and good looks), what a humanitarian. He could do so many other things with his gazillion dollars and he choses to spend his time, energy and money on the lower ninth ward. Hurricane Katrina is a black spot on this country’s history and will never be forgotten. It’s so refreshing to see that not everyone has forgotten about the people that suffered so. I remember screaming at the TV-where are the helicopters over the stadium dropping cases of bottled water and baby formula????????? No excuses here-what a shame.
I also think Sean Penn is probably the best male actor I’ve seen and he ain’t bad to look at either. My husband doesn’t like him because he once spit at a papparazzi, I think it was when he was dating Madonna. I might spit at one of them too, (but after I pretty much forced him to see Mystic River, he softened up and bit and did admit that he’s a great actor, not just a punk hothead). Anyway, i will never forget that people were criticizing him for going down to New Orleans, getting in a row boat and helping people down from roofs. I’m sure some people can come up with a ton of reasons why he shouldn’t have done it-not me. I admire him-he saw people in need, in dire need, the system wasn’t working and he tried to help out.
These two men set an example for the country and I thank them. Thanks for sharing the video.
I meant to say: he softened up a bit.
Jenn,
yes Brad is a real humanitarian – I think it’s important for eco-celebrities to get out there and put there money, time and good looks on the line to help humanity and the earth. George Clooney (who I do think is the sexiest man alive! – hubbaaa hubaaa) also puts his money where his mouth is – not only with his work to bring attention to what is happening in Dafur but also with the films he co-produces at Participant Media – the company that is committed to “socially relevant films”. George was featured on Oprah just recently working with Nicholas D. Kristof (sexier than them all) the pulitzer prize winning journalist who has not only shed major light on the sex traffick trade but also has set up charities to support the young women abused by that trade…See his website Half The Sky http://www.halftheskymovement.org/
Nicholas and his wife are fighting for women around the world and his work is extraordinary. I was overjoyed that Oprah had him on her show last week to bring attention to his ground breaking work.
As for the sexiest poll – I love Sean Penn in MILK – that was his best performance ever and I have never been totally enamored with his until that performance. I think our attraction to people depends on a lot of things – our individual values – so sexy can often = intelligent, kind hearted, loving for me. Good lucks are so subjective…
Wow, I agree, it is time for some people to put their money where their mouth is, and boy did Brad ever do it. I agree, I have a much deeper respect for him now, I always thought it was disgraceful that no one was helping the people of the lower 9th get their lives back. Bravo Brad!!!
Laurie
Also sending my respect for what Brad has done in New Orleans and is trying to accomplish in many different areas. Such as building the environmentally self sustaining homes.
I think we have to give a big thanks to Angelina, she helped give Brad a focus for his humanitarian ambitions.
They are the power couple role model’s. Just think Beautiful, Rich, and with a Social consciousness. Interesting to see what their kids do.
I agree. I think there relationship is rare – two passionate people who understand their responsibility
and obligation to make a difference in the world. They are both real shining stars!
