my bio
I am 59 yrs young ans live in a senior building. I never thought I would live with a lot of other seniors but I really enjoy it. I have two children a daughter with six chilfren and a son with none. My oldest grandchild (20 yrs old) had my first great-grand in Aug 2008. I am seeing a gentleman in my building who is a lot older than me but he seems much younger, sweet, sprited. and makes me laugh! I have been friends with a great group of ladies for 25 years and we still go out on the town at least every month or two!!

How did you get to where you are now?
I got married at 18 and I was 8 months prenant. I took the GED test to get my high school diploma. I had another child at 21 and left my husband 6 months later. I never remarried but I did get an associate degree in dental assisittng. I worked at a private catholic university for 26 yrs and retired in 2006. My children seemed to miss their dad at first but after he did not keep in touch or pay alimony they did not care that much.

How do you see yourself differently now than you did 10 years ago?
I really wished that I had prepared for retirement differently...the only thing that keeps me off of state aid is the fact that I am on disability. I am a diabetic, and have arthritis all over my body...it hurts and I sometime must get cortisone injections and use a cane to walk. I was always athletic in jr high and high school (ran track, played volleyball and basketball and was a long jump and 100 yard dash champion) I just did not see this coming but I deal with it and keep my head up

Where do you see yourself in 10 years?
I really do not know because of the conditions I have, but I hope to be able to travel and spend a lot of time with my grands and great-grands. Of course I hope to still see my sista friends for lunch dates, plays, and other exciting adventures.
a postcard to my younger self
